This lad's got a Speedster project on ebay but the ad says it's on a tube frame....not a cheap VW pan.
Later, during the running of the ad he discovers it is on a VW pan, admits the mistake and corrects the ad...almost. He says it really is on a VW pan. It must be a regular pan though, not the CHEAP one he referred to earlier. :-)

Wouldn't want a 'cheap' VW pan detracting from the carbureter sticking out the rear deck lid! 
I could see how someone not familiar with replicas - could call the 2x4" steel perimeter frame a tube frame (vs steel reinforced VW pan). A lot of dune buggies don't have that added steel frame - and when you jack up a corner the body wants to twist. The steel perimeter frame hangs the door hinges and gives the VW pan more rigidity. Since its a 1500 cc it must have a 2" carb adapter to run a new larger throat carburetor. If current price isn't reserve - it should be withing $1k, I'd think.
This is relisted because it was up to around 8 last week and the reserve wasn't met. And, he'd rather waste everyone's time than simply let people know what the reserve is. I'll never get that. A minimum is fine but it doesn't have to secret.
I think a tube chassis is superior to the VW Pan in theory, but a piece of sh## is a piece of sh##.
Looks like the tube frame is the old CMC subframe.... I love the charm and patina created with the blurred photography.... You can make a safe bet its worth maybe 3k...

dosent your have an oil pan gasket? some have seals,"O" ring seals.
a properly built tube chassie is a thing of beauty.I just put mine on racing junk a few min ago,I hate to do it but Ive got to have room for my 356&money to pay for it.hmm you reckon he will take 3 grand for it??1 356 is nice, but 2 would be mo better.1 fast & 1 realy fast.

Yup, smells bad. Spend all that and lord knows what you'll find once you get into it. Since the interior looks like crap I asked for a floorpan shot and that went nowhere.

Wow, It's reached $7500 again! Another one missing the stock CMC engine cooling fiberglass pieces to seal the engine. Looks like it started out as white. Appears to be a 1600 cc dual port engine too (not a 1500 cc).
Guy was probably owed money and took the car in as payment from someone.
Can't fault the guy looking to get what he can outta it, who knows what BS was told to him prior to receiving it.
I have a CMC that is for sale, If your interested let me know. Its a project but it is all there plus in has an 1835 motor with 40mm Weber carbs. It will be in your price range
How can you see someone's reserve? i bid $6,500 on this one Last time around. I'm glad I didn't win it now I know it's 'a cheap VW pan' LOL guess my JPS is just on a cheap pan too... as for $11,000, that's a joke!
Sorry, overly excited and jumped in (since I'm scouring the eastern seaboard for a 356 in need of TLC). Gentleman above has dibs -realized after that I slimed my way in there. Feel free to dope slap me in Carlisle.
