Hi all,

I had had that dreaded thump as the clutch pedal hit the floor with a broken cable.

Do the standard VW '60's Beetle cables fit or do you need to get a shorter one made as the floor pan is shorter...

Do any of the kit manaufavtueters offer a cable if it is a shorter cable?

Thanks in anticipation ..

Kirk, at Vintage Speedsters sells the shortened clutch cable.  If you order from him, make Shure to ask him to include the wing nut. Otherwise you whont receive it. I purchased two spares from him a few months ago.

i imagine the other builders sell the shortened cable as well.  Price is the same as the standard beetle cables sold by Cip1 and other vw part retailers.

cheers,

Luis

If you don't buy one or two from Vintage, and you have someone shorten a stock cable for you (and he might as well do TWO, one for a spare) then he'll need the metric stub end that gets swaged onto the shortened cable.  He certainly won't have the front pedal hook loop, so shorten it at the tranny end and use a metric stub to fit your wingnut - If he does rigging for European boats, especially Beneteau, then he'll have the stainless stub.

The end-to-end dimension from the top of the pedal loop to the end of the throw-out stud is 77 inches.

Another alternative to the metric big wing nut is drill the nut out and use whatever end stub you can find that fits the cable OD and then get a Nylock nut to fit the stub and run it up against the wing nut.  Same thing accomplished, just MacGyvered a bit.
