Thinking about trading for a CMC speedster built in 92 stock 1600, needs new canvas top, I was thinking of puting my stock 1600 back in my bug and keeping the 2186 What do you guys think ? what would be a fair trade? Collectible car value is a very subjective area... Looking forward to increased values over time usually means spending an inordinate amount of money on the subject vehicle, money you never recapture.

Some makes and models have prooven themselves as price performers in the upper echelon of collectors and car enthusiasts while other cars fit more the fickle 'novelty' ranks, where the interest is weighted to the iffy buyers or worse, the ones looking for a steal.

It has been posted here many times, our cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. Sure we all hold an undying respect for the originals, but choose replicas for a host of reasons... if you see yourself driving one over the other, then that's the one that's your keeper.

VW verts are cute, in fact a '73 super beetle vert was my only right off the boat new car. Would I want it and a replica speedster? No. Would I want it over a replica speedster? No. Does that make my decision better than your ultimate decision? No.

I think your decision should be one of the heart, not the wallet. Your decision needs to factor your driving expectations and enjoyment
if you can't justify owning both.
Just my four running car's worth!
If your 1964 Convertible has been restored to a high degree of quality, it will only grow in value for the future. Whereas these Speedster replicas will supply you with a great deal of ownership & enjoyment. So basically, if you're looking for a future investment keep the Beetle, but want to have some serious fun grab the Speedster.
I myself, along with a few other enthusiasts on this site choose to keep the VW collection while still including the Speedster

I too have several Vintage VW's and a CMC speedster. I would not trade any of my rides for a Speedster. Although I enjoy driving my Speedster, I don't ever think it will appreciate like the VW's. Especially when Herbie the Love Bug comes out next year. I project they value of the VW's to climb again (we'll see)
Anyways the guys are right, build a bigger garage, problems solved.
Good luck
Keep the convertible they are getting harder to find in any condition. Well maintained it's like money in the bank
Vs has kits already rolling ,you can get if you want to build your own car eather that or a used turn key are good ways to get started But if you want a pristine speedster with out the hassle Buy a new turnkey from any of the suppiers here Vs is the low end of the scale up to JPS in the middle and the high end being IM . Im are the best all around best. If it is a sunny day car Definaly a speedster,,, if you want to drive it daily ,,,get a IM D roadster.

If your determind to sell it,add my name to the buyer list. Im stretched tight now but. If I have to keep it intack ,I would buy it.64 was a good year.
