OK, here is something off the wall. From Aug edition of Hot Rod. VWs (Type 4s, one supposes) that hit (and tear up) the drag strip. 500 to 600 HP. Don't know if you can read the print in these jpgs, but that red top-chopped bug has a 633 HP mill inside, and turns 9.3 in the 1/4 mile, and he drives it around town. The article also has a bug at 2227 cc that puts out 620 HP, they say, clocked at 8.55 sec and 164 mph. It's sort of like being rich: no matter how rich you are, there is always somebody richer. Also, there is a Ghia pictured, normally aspirated, 2497 cc at 300 HP.

I remember a Hot Vw's article on the black car some time ago. It even shows a photo of the current owner's mom back in 1967 when she received the new car as a gift from her father (by the way the car was originally red). Sadly the lady died some time ago and her son turned the car into a full-on racer.
Kelly, Kelly, Kelly.
What will we ever do with you?

These are the reasons I thought you ought to meet Tif, amigo. The Wrench ain't exactly a stock kind of guy. ... And I swear I learn something new every time I watch him turn a metric tool.
I'm very, very happy he's got his life back on track, BTW. It makes mine a helluva lot easier.
