O.K. all you Beckers.... Give me some ideas as to the best way to anchor shoulder harnesses in a Beck. My car has an indentation in the fire wall that creates a horizontal surface just below the cockpit trim piece. This seems a good place, however it is too low ( given that the anchors should be no less than 1 inch below shoulder height as per belt instructions). The firewall feels pretty flimsey... I guess some beefing up is required. Any help (photos) would be appreciated.
ALSO:
what is the liklihood of installing a removable roll bar in this car? I would definitely feel safer with a roll bar and could never get my chubby body into the car with the top up, but would like to give some potential future owner the option of a top.
Thanks for your feedback

If you mount it to the firewall you could just add a crossmember spanning the 2 bolt locations. Just need to buy a 2 foot or so piece of 1-2" steel and bolt through it. Simple and cheap. I'm sure others will have better ideas.

On the removable roll bar I'm just hopefully bringing mine in to the shop tomorrow and have got some ideas. Weld points will be on the outside of the tubes and will hopefully also be height adjustable as the SCCA is just passing some new rules but I don't like the look of the extra height they're requiring. It will take a couple week to get done but I'll post pictures afterward. I know there are others with removable roll bars.
David:

I have Beck #250 and was concerned with the flexibility of the firewall. When the engine was recently rebuilt, the firewall got reinforced. It is now sandwiched between two layers of .040 aluminum with a thermal layer on the engine side. It is clear coated to prevent future dulling. Looks very nice and solved the weakness with the fiberglass firewall.

The previous owner installed a single hoop removable roll bar on the driver's side. It is bolted to the bottom frame member behind the firewall and has a cross bar near the top (under the deck) which is used to anchor the shoulder belts at close to the proper height. The straps come through some slots in the upper firewall. I have not confirmed but an sure this bolted system would not pass muster with the
SCCA. An additional removable diagonal bar was installed from the top of the hoop down to a mounting plate welded to the floor of the passenger side to strengthen the arrangement. Don't anticipate competing in SCCA events, but wanted more safety on the road.
