side mirrors

First I'd like to thank everyone that responded to my engine bonnet issue. Since it seems to be something that will have to be addressed when I go to paint I have another questions about side mirrors. When I do go to paint I am considering remounting the side mirror on the door. Is there any reason why I predominately see the side mirror(s) mounted in the front fender as opposed to the door where I believe the original Speedster have them mounted?
