Side Trim On A Widebody??

I am considering putting side trim on my widebody CMC. Has Anyone done this?

It would have to be cut on the front fender and rear quarter..

I have Speedster emblems for the front fenders as well, I just haven't got them on yet.

Maybe a picture if you have a widebody with side trim?!?!

Nein, No. Clean lines best on wide-body. IMHO.

Hey Tom, it's your car, do what you want. Like wine, everyone has different tastes. I have a flared Cabriolet and was told that door sill molding wouldn't fit, it does and I installed a set. I like a little pizzaz and pepperoni pizza, my wife like Italian sausage pizza and wear little makeup but we'll celebrate our 51st anniversary in June.

I have to say no. Bad idea for a pile of reasons, not the least of which is that break in the line. Don't do it. It's a rule, despite what our esteemed colleague from Ft. Lauderdale says about personal tastes.

Sometimes the people who say "there's a rule", break all the rules themselves (smile). Go with your gut! You pay the freight, you make the rules.

I would have to say not my cup of tea, but I was just looking at my tub (drove it to work today) and then I looked back at your tub and noticed that if you keep the lines in sync with the door handle and do not extend too far into the front fenders or rear quarter panels it might look ok...

Hey Tom! - Awesome car. I'm diggin' on the wheels and that color. IMHO, with the flares, wheels & color, there's a lot of visual going on for the eye to take in. Maybe the strips and script might be too much. If I knew how to photo-shop, I'd do that to see the overall effect. This is why there are 31 flavors at Baskin & Robins. Pick the flavor that pleases you. NICE CAR!

Is this the trim you are talking about? My car came with this when I bought it....

Thanks everyone! I am leaning towards no side trim. I think I would look good, but I'm not oh so excited about drilling holes down the side of it!!! Then I can never go back!

The trim I am talking about is inline with the door handle.

Buy some of that plastic stick-on trim from any automotive store. Peal the back off and lightly stick it on and see what that looks like. Better than drilling holes then not liking it.

Not a bad idea.. Has anyone done this? Is there a stick on molding that is similar to the stock molding?!?!

When it comes times to sell, you may find you severely limited your buyer base by having the trim, and to reverse the work could be tedious and expensive.

Okay. I broke a couple little rules, but you owe it to Tom to at least open the book and point to them before you just let him make his own decisions, right?

What if he had come in here and said he was going to put the emblem from a Chrysler on the front? That's a rule, too!

Tom, I'm totally kidding. But generally, widebodied cars should have a certain retro-mod feel to be successful in the marketplace, and chrome anything seems to dilute the message. I feel like you're leaning in the right direction.

Breaking the rules is SO exciting, though!

Why don't you break Troy's rule and just do it on one side?

Ya, I've decided against it... I think if I did it, then I would keep going. Side deco, bumper guards etc. and I would lose the hot rod feel.. Thanks everyone, and don't worry about the rules, it's obvious we are all not the type of people that listen to rules, or we would be driving honda civics or something sad like it!!! Lol!!!

Troy, could you find a different compulsiveness? OCD isn't graphically symmetrical. Might I suggest OCO...Obsessive Compulsive Obsessiveness?
Even that doesn't work well. Try something that works with these... OAO, OHO, OIO, OMO, OTO, OUO, OVO, OWO, OXO, OYO.
