What to use for the insert in the door that accepts the side window?
Is this a vendor item, something from a hardware store, or do I need to machine my own?

You should be able to find steel sleeves that accept the posts on your windows at any good hardware store. The decorative ferrules on top can be obtained from Carey Hines at Special Edition or machined by you. Not sure where else you could get them.
Or, if you're adventurous, you can use bathroom sink feed-pipes. They are chromed outside, copper tubing and usually have a 1/4" or 3/8" inner diameter with a flat ferrul on one end, perfect to be the dress end of the tube on top of your door bumper. Plus, they won't rust.
OTOH, The versions from CMC were simple, aluminum tubing with a flat, flared end....nothing fancy.
You'll have to measure the OD of the window pegs that you have (if you have them) to get tubing the same ID. I gave up on my CMC window pegs (they rusted when I lived near the coast) so I used an idea from a guy in Norway and used 5/16" stainless steel bolts bent to the right shape and cut off to accept a SS cap nut with SS outer washers and rubber inner washers (against the plexiglass). They look classy and work great.
hoghead (man, do I HATE not having real names),
I've got a set of VS/JPS pegs. Cover the postage, and they're yours.
The name is Robert and I appreciate your offer

Theron,
Why are some 'little Man Icons' gold and others are gray?
If you click on the Gold ones, you will see that the users status is Online. The gray ones, Offline. Which really just means the user has been browsing the site in the last 20 or so minutes.
