Here is a place where you can start your research. I run a relatively small engine in my '95 VS. It was a 1776 that I upped to 1835. It has dual Kadrons that have been bullet-proof for the miles I've logged in my car (85,000+).
if you contact this shop they can answer your questions (cost, ease of install, applications for your engine size, etc.)

Webbers are going to be more than $500 new in 40 mm. I would take a look at Kadrons... Sure, they won't make the power of 40mm Webber IDF's..... But they seem to be more reliable from what I have experienced. It's really not that big of a deal to put them on. Tuning them will be the bugger!
T1 1600 engine, right now with a 34 pict 3 original (Brazilian) single carb. Thanks for all of the help.

For your 1600 like Jim said Kadron's are the way to go. I set mine on my 1641 4 plus years ago and tuned them and have not touched them since. Great power increase for me. Make sure you have a proper breathing exhaust to complete the package.

I'm not sure what the new Kads are like, but I had a set on my stock beetle, way back in 1976, and they were great. I put 50,000 miles on them and had zero problems, unlike the two sets of Webers I've owned. I adjusted them once a year...that was it.

You'd be suprised how close a sharp carb guy can jet one knowing engine size and altitude where you live... This is Amish's 2nd Speedster... He's no stranger.
Second car but at this one has a gremlin and has died and had to be towed 2x in its 60 mile history with me im looking for reliability and saftey, also I don't have any faith in it... The last one was bullet proof.
Keep your eyes open for another thread on saftey / tool kit that I'll start tonIght. I cover all of south florida (100 square miles) for work so I used to take the old one any day I had less than 10% chance of rain. Once this one is running ive already spec-d out a front latch electric release and fire suppression for the rear... I'm curious about a tool kit (spare belt, spark plug, fix a flat etc)...
