I use AN-8 on my Spyder, about 12 feet total loop length, all in the rear near engine. I think a front install would utilize AN-10, at least that is how others did it. I bought all my line and fittings from Jeg's, and used their brand, black anodized. Not cheap at all, but less than Earl's etc. I also used the braided nylon hose, as my hoses all run along my powdercoated frame. I didn't want the abrasion factor of the stainless braid against anything back there. About $300 or so, but worth it.
Does anyone have pics of how they routed their AN-8 oil lines from eng-to-remote filter, then to oil cooler (empi 96 plate w/fan & in-line thermostatic fan switch) over the transaxle and back into the engine? I've been looking through the SOG searchs but minimal pics. Has anyone installed an oil thermostat? I don't see/hear much about "oil thermostat" installs on this forum, but CB and others say they are the way to go. Pics would be a huge help as I start to lay out what I'll need for locations,and to order fittings, and line lengths from Summitt or Jegs so this set-up is installed & ready for a 2110/+ CB turnkey.

I just happen to have a CB in-line oil thermostat out in the shop. I ran it temporarily with another engine/cooler configuration a couple of years ago. After experimenting with the thing and being in Ca, I just don't think winter warming of the oil is an issue here.
I have the instructions and the brass barbs are sized for 1/2" hose.
Make me "an offer I can't refuse"!

I ran a line from the oil pump directly to the filter. Then out of the filter I attached a double female AN-8 adapter which allowed me to mount and support my oil thermostat. The return goes back to the engine oil galley. The other two fittings go to the cooler feed and return. All oil MUST be filtered on a full-flow. If you know this cool, I am just noting it for those that don't. Pretty much the cooler doesn't play that big a role unless it is 90 + and in traffic. At least that is when the electric fan kicks on. The temp needle stays in the same place, so the thermostat must be doing it's job.
Thxs Danny & Gordon, I knew I had seen that set of instructions somewhere, but couldn't find it on SOG, but finally re-found it on the Speedster shop forum. Great article, but one question: why use the Gene berg oil pump cover plate with the pressure relief valve? High pressure worries / concerns? or why have it dump unfiltered oil back into the sump when pressure exceeds the valve in the cover plate? I suppose the good news is that ANY/ALL oil going to the engine is being filtered.....

I find the Gene Berg website interesting & informative ( in a Gene Berg sorta way...) but hard to navigate when it comes to oil systems and pumps & covers, what goes with what, and what parts to order.

The install article w/pics was a great "how to" from Gordon...better & more complete than anything I could find on SOG, so why isn't it listed in the SOG Knowledge section????

Danny: the double female AN-8 fittings is a neat trick for attaching the oil cooler t/stat to something solid versus just hanging it in-line somehow...Nice! I'm going to use that one for sure.

No problem, Doug. I previously had my thermostat hanging by the hoses and figured there had to be a better way.

I don't know 100% for sure why, but Jake Raby used the Berg pressure relief cover on my pump, type1 2165cc, full flowed. I think it has to do with super extreme pressures on cold startup and blowing oil filters off the flange, though. I don't agree w/all that Berg said, but a lot of his work/knowledge is good stuff. And if it's good enough for Gene and Jake, well it's great for me!
If you are using stainless braided lines make sure you run some thin oil through them before they are installed. Sometimes there are stainless threads that get in to the ID of the hose. They cannot be removed by air, water or brake cleaner. Thin oil is the only way . Trust me on this one. I had to tear don't an expensive T4 because I did not clean out the hoses. Cost me a engine case, main bearings & and crank.
