1958 owner built replica, completed in 1996, 17,000 miles on remanufactured 1776 engine and transmission, new black interior from Vintage, only 1000 miles on new paint, exact match for Porsche Slate Gray. Within the last year I have installed new: trigger shifter, taillights, turn signals, exhaust, nerf bars, mesh headlight grilles, 1/4 tonneau cover, powerful custom stereo with hidden 10" subwoofer and Diamond components, and a vintage wooden steering wheel.

The reason for the low price is a couple of mechanical issues that I don't have the means of dealing with right now. I am confident that they can be fixed quickly and inexpensively by someone familiar with the Type 1:

Brakes--the car still has 4-wheel drum brakes which have proved perfectly adequate for spirited mountain driving, but when I replaced them recently I couldn't remove the outer race of the outer bearing in the left front wheel. I replaced the rest of the bearings and put it back together, but to fix it properly you will need a new front drum and bearing. This will cost well under $100, but the reason I did not do this repair is that a complete front disc conversion can be had for $400 or so and would make these parts unnecessary.

Engine--The timing is slightly off and needs to be set.

Trim--The upper and lower molding is not installed. I have the deco molding that came with the car and a new set of vintage upper trim.

$14,000 OBO

The car is located in Temecula, California. My email is stephan.amirianATgmail.com and I will assist with delivery in L.A., San Diego, or Orange County.

Vince -

You've been jonesing for another Speedy ever since you sold MR356!!

Hopefully you can make a little extra change on MRGHIA to buy one one of the great cars currently listed on the 'Classified' section here. There are some really nice Seedsters for sale right now that I wish were available when I was looking.

Either way, looking forward to hooking up with you and Terry in Morro Bay!! BTW - hope you've fully recuped from your spill on the Harley (or will the brain damage be even MORE noticeable than before!!)? Bwaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaa!!
Jim
There is no excuse for some of the words that come out of my mouth.
I don't even pretend to be sorry for that, it just happens...
could be bad or good drugs from the 60's, agent orange, raising 4 girls, but I have been that way long before my accident a few weeks ago, which I will say I am lucky to be here typing this right now....
I had no plans on selling the Ghia, but a collector in Europe found out I have a weak spot for cash and is offering me a fair deal, which makes me a few K, pays some bills and the possibility of another speedy....He will be in town first week in April to see MR Ghia, so I guess it's possible I won't have a car for Morro Bay, but I will cross that road when I get to it....I will be at Morro Bay, even If I have to drive Teri's new Sebring Hardtop Convert...
I am also selling one of my Harley's, it's a 86 softtail, that I built for Teri to ride with me...guess what...she no longer wants to ride....says I can keep my hardtail, but she will pass...
she prefers riding along side rather than behind.....
Jim, I would love to go, but not just to sell my car. I missed Paso Robles last year and I was looking forward to this year's event, but for some of the same reasons I need to sell I can't make it.

I would have bought your car, Vince, but I was trying to save a buck--ended up spending just as much in the long run.
No Larry, I have always been a little intimidated by working on my own cars but once I got in there and started taking things apart, everything went pretty well. As I mentioned before, the engine is running like a top right now and its a joy to drive--seems faster too.

I can't really justify owning it right now; my current income barely keeps us afloat, my fiancee has been trying (hard) to find a job ever since graduating college last summer, and we also need to find a new apartment which may or may not have a garage.
