Slide windows?

I'm currently working on making my car more comfortable in foul weather. Has anybody tried this product?

Do a search here - they really don't exist even though they have advertised them for several years. Like a single universal side curtain could fit all the different models and windshield locations.

The sliding windows are a "made to order item" I once got a quote but they were a bit steep I thought. Now I'm thinking about getting some. I can't imagine using an ATM machine or paying a toll with the stock VIntage windows in.---Jack

Ernie - Here's some pictures I found (I think on ebay) for the factory sliding side curtains for the cabriolet hardtop. Seems with some aluminium boat windshield pieces, a custom frame could be made for sliding side curtains. Would take some aluminum welding skills though. I'll wait til I find a hardtop to try it.

the fibersteel thing has been around and around on this (and other) sites prevfiously. They show pictures, and the guy there will even answer e-mails about them. The gist is that nobody has ever bought any, as they are pricey. On this Forum and at Speedstershop, there is lots about how to do this yourself, and so that is what most folks seem to do. Some Lexan and some patience apparently is what it takes. I'm betting a search here on sidecurtains will show plenty of helpful hints about what/how. As each maker is a bit different wrt top geometry, and each car is a little different one to the next, making a "standard" part that fits all perfectly, the only way to get close to watertight, is a no-win proposition.

As for tolls: get an E-Z Pass.

Ernie, I had that experience at Office Depot last week. IMHO once it's on the website, they just forget about it. Where the cost is, is the labor to update the website!

Lexan and a jigsaw. You need a nice post set up for the base. I have seen other guys make the base by bending an all thread carriage bolt and using washers and rubber gasket. Custom cut lexan from a cardboard pattern will give you a snug fit.

Actually, some speedsterowner with the fabrication means build up some post bases and sell those on this site. Then people could make their own. I'd think you could easily weld two posts to a flat piece on a slight angle to give the window the proper inward tilt.

Here's the deal--Fibersteel quoted me a price and asked me to send my
windows from my VS to them and they would make them the same and that they would fit. I haven't done it but still might. The sliders they have do look slick.---Jack
