I think it depends where they are located. Usually you're just seeing the gelcoat cracking. Whenever mounting something to/thru the fibergass body always use a large fender washer behind it and avoid tightening it overly. This and cracks, at say, the rear corner just behind the back of the doors are referred to as stress cracks. Stones and "road alligators" (the big hunks of black tire retreads from 18 wheelers) thrown up can also cause star cracks in the outer gel coating. Someone mention builing inner wheel wells or Rhino/rubber undercoating coating them. I fixed some cracks in fiberglass running boards on a SUV. I used a Dremel tool to clean out and enlarge the cracks then filled them with fiberglass resin and finally finishing off with spot body putty. I'm not sure that this would permanently fix the stress cracks at the back of the door openings - that might take adding support or extra fiberglass matting/cloth to back of that area. I recall seeing an article in the knowledge center here on repairing fiberglass too.
