If you look at the photos in lastest 5/22 files entry (58 Carrera speedster GS) there is an interesting anomaly. No big deal, but anyone who is a nit-picker for detail and thinking of having a new car built might want to consider it.

The front horn grilles with lights were higher above the bumpers on pre-A and early A 356's; the grill/light combo was lower on the later cars (about level with the bumper on the bottom side of the grill). You can see these differences in different years of Porsche dealership brochures. I discussed this with Henry at IM and asked him to make my '56 Speedster 356A replica with the high light location.

The picture mentioned above has the grill/light combo high, in the early location, but has the later tear-drop taillights. The tear-drops are also incorrect with the shine-down license plate light, or vice-versa.

Michiel,

That was our site Troll welcoming you to the club. He is a wealth of knowledge which he shares freely, as is evident. He's not a bad troll as trolls go. Anyway, let me be the first to say welcome to the club and say what a great looking and built car yours appears to be!

It is - absolutely - a beautiful car... I just notice minor build details when I look at pictures and replicas at shows. No big deal.

Scott, from what I've read, heard, seen, and been told the tear drops and shine-up happened together with no overlap. The front light height change happened before the tear drops.

I am new to this site (and Speedsters), so you'll have to excuse my ignorance,George, but I don't see how you can nit pick over minor exterior details, when the new car you ordered is about as far away from "standard" as one can get.

I will be visiting Intermeccanica next week to order a new Speedster (or possibly the Roadster RS). I will be happy to take pictures of everything that looks interesting and post them when I get back.
Brian, that's true, but only "under the skin". On the outside the car will look like a Carrera Speedster with retro fitted louvered rear deck lid (like the red one in Dr. Thiriar's book). It will have beehive tail lights and T/I's, H/L grills, Speedster buckets with no headrests, gas heater (some Carreras had Ebersbacher gas heaters), high horn grills/lights, under-dash parking brake, kick panel carpet storage pockets similar to the original cars, 8,000 RPM VDO tach, T/I, VDO 160 mph speedo, VDO 904 combo gauge (oil temp, oil press, and fuel), correct instrument warning lights, and Nardi wood-rimmed wheel (common on Carreras). just wanted to get the car more-or-less right looking.
Jim,
George is right. He is a gnome and I'm the troll. My ancestors date back thousands of years in Sverige (that "sver-ee-ya" or Sweden) belonging to a mystic cult of them. This probably should not get out since I am on the lam in Tennessee, where trolls are virtually unknown and therefore safe.

I thought a troll was just an antisocial bitter old gnome with bad skin? In Tennessee trolls ain't unknown, the're extinct. They were good eats back in the good old days. mmmmmmmm....Tastes just like chicken.

Jerome

(Sorry for the rant, it is Friday before the long weekend and I need a vacation)
Jerome,
I'm happy, not bitter and my skin cleared up just fine. Love that clearasil! BTW, my safety lies in your silence. I don't want the boys in the hills to be warming up the stewpot while they're cooking up their sour mash.
