Smiths Reproduction Gauges

SMITHs?  I was sure you were joking - repro of Smith's gauges would be better than real thing.  They look like VDO though and at a steep price $849 special.  You could buy Carey's SE quality ensured ones for $589 and have a month's beer money left over.

Smiths digital instruments are made in the UK in the last surviving original factory unit.
The Smiths brand includes a range of digital speedos and tachos from dedicated autosport versions to electronic replicas of the original Smiths mechanical speedos and tachos of the 1960's.

The classic replica units were brought to the classic market in 2012 and have been designed to work with both negative and positive earth, 12v systems.

So the speedo is electronic?  How does that work???

I believe it's hall effect driven. There is most likely a small magnetic applique you stick to the rim and the hall sensor reads it. It also eliminates the speedo error that a lot of us put up with.

I said the same thing about Smiths.  Wow!  The speedo, if it's like the VDOs from SE, is GPS  driven meaning it calculates rate from motion of the car across the surface of the earth through changing coordinates.  SE gets $589 for the gauges and another $175 or so for senders for all units. I wonder if the Smiths gauges includes senders or not.

cip1 in spite of their name is not a CA company. They are based in BC Canada eh? I have had good luck with purchasing from them. Good prices, no tax, no freight. Orders take a while because of customs.
