US OPEN of Surfing - Fellow local surfer takes out the world best to make it 2 in a row, taking home a cool $100,000.00 for a day work.

The energy of this contest is intense, so many things going on - sensory overload just the way I like it.

Now I can relax and go on a run or long drive.

This week is Big Wednesday at San Onofre State Park if you like Vintage VW Buses, Surf or tiny Bikinies you may want to take a day off and just Hang Out.

BIG Wednesday

Big Wednesday is held the second Wednesday of every August at San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente California. It's motto is simple; skip work at surf. Some of you may be old enough to remember the movie, but for those who don't the philosophy is very similar. It's a day to take off from work, grab your board, throw it in your bus and head down to the beach.

There's no schedule to follow, or admission prices to pay (except 10 bucks for parking), but this is just a day to relax with some friends down at the beach. Hot Dog Fred is cooking Brats, and we give out two awards the whole day. The first one is for the ride of the day during our "relaxed" version of a surf contest, and the second is for the best example of a VW Surf Vehicle. In the years past, the awards have seemed to be the highlight of the afternoon. We hope to see you down at the beach, with or without a board...
