Sorry for the double post.
I am nowhere near ready for it but:
Are there tracks in So. Cal. Where you can rent time? Not ovals but F1 type tracks with left and right turns?
Where and How much per hour?
Have the spyder owners group ever gone in to rent a day somewhere?
Not to race, but maybe time trial?
thanks,

Willow Springs is always a fun place to run.

This is a bit closer and you have to use their cars but it would be a fun SoCal Spyder event.

Willow Springs is a good choice. Check out their event calendar on the web site. The Streets of Willow is a very technical track and is often rented by clubs like the Miata Club, Alfa Romeo etc. You can usually gain access by paying the $200 - $300 per day fee to the respective club. Good way to gain about 100 mles per day of seat time.

Check out Porsche Owners Club at porscheclub.com/
You'll need a Roll Cage and a race helmet.

oops, I meant ROLL BAR, not cage. You'll need a cage for full race type events but for what they call Slaloms, you only need a bar for a open topped car. The Slaloms are run on cones at some events but many times a year, they run slaloms at Willow Springs' Streets track. That track is perfect for a small nimble car like a 550 Spyder.

Theree are several track that I've been to that caters to group events. They usualy charge about $3k-$5k depending on the day of the week. Check out Button Willow Raceway near Bakersfield, Willow Springs in Lancaster & California Speedway in Fontana.
California Speedway has the best facilities but also costs the most at $7k. But the costs can be easily offset by club members paying $125/ea for track time. The Porsche enthusiasts club here in San Diego occassionally also set up a "coned tracked" at Qualcomm Stadium.

Check with SCCA or PCA race officials - you may need a Snell 200 approved helmet instead of just any old helmet, and they may also require a nomex driving suit, etc.
