And there were 620 or so unread new messages! Holy cow!
Pre-Carlisle updates; the header is now wrapped in fiberglass, the diaphragms in BOTH Dells are changed out, the fuel gauge and sending unit are in, the huge smashed-in nose section (from last week) is patched, the timing has been corrected from 36 degrees to something more reasonable, like 26, uh ... carbs are leaned out, breather box is clear of debris, new copper exhaust seals are in ... wiring is double-checked, GPS cradle is installed on the steering wheel ...
And all so you Hoopty Hopefuls can drive this bad beeotch on Friday.
Cool, huh? (Lane, you get your shot on Thursday.)

WOO-HOO!

I'm back offline now until Tuesday ... If anybody needs me for anything, phone is the best option until then ...

Cory - I was looking at your heat wrap on the headers pipes. Have you used the wrap before, and what was your experience?

My reason for inquiry is that I used heat wrap on a truck header application many years ago. Engine ran great, and under hood temperature dropped nicely, but after about 20,000 miles the steel in the header pipes just vaporized. They were Hooker headers, and were painted high temp white before applying the wrap. I've avoided heat wrap ever since, but I do understand the theoretical engineering advantages of using it.
In a temporary situation, heat wrap is good. BUT, since I was considering it last year, I asked few others advice on using it and everyone I asked said the same thing... DON'T. reason being, it traps moisture when not running and it encourages wear and rust. I am not telling you this from experience, but as a third-person-pass-along.
Nuthin' but love, Darren. It's good to be back.
David, I'm using this for about three weeks, and then it goes on the shelf while the header gets a ceramic coating. I'll have it available for temporary use on other projects; never used it before now.
It does seem to have given me the 15-degree reduction I needed prior to this epic Carlisle trip.
