Hey folks, my wife (Marlene) is on the Board for the CA Parking Professionals Assoc (CPPA for short, believe it or not they have International Assoc's also. Parking is big money!!).

The CPPA is having a conference in November and has asked if the SOC would like to show their cars on the Saturday of their conference. It would be part of their family day and our kids are welcome for those who have them.(See Below)

"I was asked by CPPA to see if our car club would be interested in showing our cars on Saturday, November 13th in Long Beach at the Long Beach Lagoon. I told them that we could probably get up to 20 cars in the So Cal area. Can you please post on the website and see if they would be interested."

They have pulled some strings and been given the use of the lagoon area of the convention center to use for free (See below)

Jen, I'll make sure we put you and Blake in the the nominations for the long distance award provided you don't get lost on the way to the show!!

Seriously, I agree if the weather holds and I'll let you know if anything needs to be done, but I think Marlene can handle the details plus we'll be there a couple days in advance so I can iron out any wrinkles that come up.

Scott

Bill,

That seems like a great idea at a parking "professionals" event, but I think that would be detrimental to their revenue producing ticket counts!! If everyone parked right, how could they make money?! I guess they could follow suit with the State of CA and create a tax,,,hmmm?

Seriously, good to hear everyone that's weighed in on going. Gerd, I'm watching for the "I'm in" I'm Out" routine, but you must be slowing down. Did you run out of daisy petals to help you in your decision making?? ;)
Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the disappearing act lately... As far as the show, it looks like we just need to show up and start parking. I was thinking it might be good to meet somewhere beforehand and drive in together. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Again, it's open to all the SOC folks and we have room for at least 20 cars. I'm sure we can add if the interest is that great, but if not you guys are welcome to invite other nice rides to join (yes Vince, you can bring ol' Debbie).

Anyone interested in organizing an after show thing for those who are interested?

If we can get a head count that would be great! I'm hoping for good weather and I don't expect anyone to send any money to get counted in, just let me know if you think you can make it. A ballpark number is great.

See you soon.

BTW, more details (times) to follow. My lead organizer, and social planner (Marlene) probably won't be going, but she can let me know the details and contact person.

Warren, are you gonna make the trip?
Okay, so here is a little more info and there is a link below to the flyer...It is a "Family Day" for the CPPA folks and whoever they have chosen to invite. Our club was extended a special invitation as several members are interested in our cars.

The event is sponsored by CPPA and is free to all invitees (that would be us). Marlene has pre-regisered up to 10 cars, but we are welcome to bring more, we just need to let her know in advance. They will have a food vendor supplying lunch for "FREE" to the attendees. There will be a live band, a mobile aquarium and some family oriented activities. If any of you have kids, they are welcome to attend as well (Eddie, Marlene was thinking about you and your son).

The hours of the event are longer than she first mentioned. We can show up as early as 8 am, but they want the cars in place by 9:30 am and would like us to stay until 4 pm.

Dave, I assume coolers are okay, but Marlene will find out for sure.

Marlene just got an update from the PITA (pain in the....) that wants us to show our cars in Long Beach. Let me know what you guys think! I'm not too pleased with the updated info.

He says he wants the cars in by 9 am and not to leave before the crowd thins around 4:30 pm. The lunch being provided is hot dogs and sodas. For Dave, and the rest of us, there are to be no coolers as "this is a family event." This could be a long day and much different than the original 12-3 we were told.

The high point is the cars get to be shown on the lagoon at the Convention Center, but it will be an all day event with no adult beverages, unless there is something within walking distance and we are willing to leave our cars.

Sorry for the breakdown in communication. Marlene was originally told it was a lot different than we are being told now. I'm tempted to cancel this, but I will let the group decide. Let me know if you guys are still interested. Obviously it's this group that makes these things fun. So let me know ASAP.

Scott the cooler thing is NOT a big deal or deal breaker... that being said you're right in your assumption about having us check-in early and hang around all day till 4:30. Last weekend we were in at 9:00 and out by 2:00pm. The show actually ended at 2:30. Most of us are drivers and wanna drive our cars... Are we able to leave whenever we which or are we stuck in an area that is not conducive to moving the cars with people present? just setting up in that lagoon area is pretty cool too!
I also have an event to attend early Saturday evening and was planning on leaving Long Beach no later than 3:00. I will be there in the Speedy.

For those who are going to this meet, let's rendezvous at 08:45AM in the LB marina parking lot (directions below). From here we can drive into the Convention Center as a group.

SOCers arriving from West/North of Long Beach;
1) Exit 710 Fwy onto Ocean Blvd.
2) Continue on Ocean Blvd through downtown LB to Shoreline Dr.
3) Turn RIGHT onto Shoreline Dr.

SOCers arriving from East/South of Long Beach;
1) Approach Long Beach on 2nd Street to Ocean Blvd (towards Queen Mary).
2) Turn LEFT onto Shoreline Dr.

A) Once on Shoreline drive, continue 1/4 mile to first traffic signal, Linden Dr.(entrance to LB marina). Turn LEFT onto Linden DR.
B) Enter LB marina on Linden Dr and then turn RIGHT into parking lot.
C) We could meet just inside the marina parking lot.
Jen and I look forward to seeing you all this weekend. Sucks about no coolers, but there a bunch of bars and restaurants right across the street on the water.... it'll be a great time.

if anyone wants to stay in the area for dinner, i'd be happy to make reservations somewhere. just let me know how who's in for dinner and if there's any request for Sea Food, Steak, Mexican, Thai, BBQ, etc...

Blake
Hi Guys, this is the update for this weekend. As Scott said in the earlier the post the location of the venue is the Long Beach Lagoon. The event organizers would like the cars in by 9am. To entice you to bring your cars the organizer had said he would give all car owner FREE tickets to the Long Beach Aquarium. We are not the only group going to be at the show, there a going to be some Formula 1 cars also on display.

If you have any questions on Saturday morning the Event Coordinator's name is Yael Oved and her number is 818-581-1100. Feel free to call her with any questions.

Scott and I are very disappointed we can't make it to LA this weekend. We are so sorry. For the record, we are NOT normally flaky. ;)
Let us know how it goes!
Here is a suggested Plan 'B' for those interested in a cruise instead of sitting in the lagoon parking lot;

1. 10:00AM meet in the Long Beach Marina parking lot as noted in previous post.
2. Cruise PHC over Vincent Thomas Bridge down to the coast and up through Palos Verdes.
3. Stop for lunch somewhere in PV or easily accessible area/route (any ideas). OR, we could each pack a picnic lunch and stop at one of the green belt areas along the way in PV.
4. After lunch everyone can head out on their own or back-track to Long Beach and home.

Saturday's forecast calls for 79 degree temps, clear skies. Perfect for a short cruise along the coast (bring your sun block).

Give a shout out on this plan...
