Hey Jim,

It looks more and more likely I can join you guys to Palomar. Tomorrow's game might clinch it. Can you tell me the address where we are going to meet as I am not too familiar with Orange County.

Eddy - your most likely route would be the I-5 south to Oceanside, in Oceanside take Hwy 76 East, 25 miles to Hwy 76 junction with I-15. Otherwise, for your GPS here's the address for the Mobile station at our rendezvous location (we will be in the Park & Ride lot next to the Mobil gas station):

Warren - the plan is for everybody to rendezvous 10:00 Sat AM, at the location/address noted above. BTW - you're welcome to crash at our place the night before (to minimize your drive time on the day of the cruise). However, our condo is so small, the only place for a guest to sleep would be on a sleeping bag on the living room floor (our limited living space is by design to prevent any of our kids from contemplating moving back home with the parents). If that kind of torture is OK by you (and if you don't mind the dog licking your face as you sleep), you're welcome at Casa El Guapo. The rendezvous location is approx 75 miles (1.75 hr drive time) from our home.

That would probably be more comfortable. He could park on the street, recline himself in the passenger seat and I'll throw on the car cover, Voila, Motel 997!!

I assume we will be heading south along the 405 for the early part of the trip, so pick an exit off the 405 in your area and we will pick you up

I should have my new VS widebody on the 6th. Thinking of making the trip south and joining you guys.

Anyone see any problems do this drive a few days after I get the car? First oil change on a new engine is 300 miles? then 1000? Any truth to that?

You need to change the oil often at first to wash out all the extra bolts, nuts and extra tools left behind.

Nick - that would be great if you could join us with your new ride! Hope to see you at the rendezvous location!

Kevin - bring your oval-window VW with the Mendeola suspension stuff on it. It would be cool to film that bad boy on some of these mountain road twisties!

I will need to look at a map to see which is the quickest way to get to the meeting place, but I think it's safe to say we should meet no later than 8:15 at your Atlantic location...If we travel south on the 405 from there, we may meet up with the Orange county group...
as the time draws near we can figure a plan...

Speedster D - we had 10 cars for the Petersen Museum gig.

Derek - Not really! For us, a hook up (and wait time) prior to the rendezvous at the Hwy 76/I-15 Fwy location means we would have to leave our home that much earlier.

Ginny & I plan to leave Irvine around 08:45, jump on the 73 Toll Road to I-5 to Hwy 76 in Oceanside then east to I-15. We'll see you guys there!

Still working out some bugs....pushing hard to make this one, sounds EPIC!!! :)-

Can you tell me what time we should be finished with the drive?
Michael is in for sure and his family will rent a motorcycle for the ride but need to be home by 6:00 for a party.

This looks like it's going to be a fun Saturday... I can hardly wait and my 5 year old motor head boy talks about it everyday since I told him we were going.......

Derek - Michael & his group should be able to make it home (Laguna Beach) by 4:00-4:30 easily.

Vince, Blake (et al), Consider this;

The route on the 91 to I-15 south will take you through Corona, Lake Elsinore and Temecula. It is a boring/hot route.

The route that gets you on the 91 or 405 to I-5 South then to Oceanside is approximately the same mileage & drive time, BUT it puts you on the coastline (a much nicer drive by ANY measure).

...I'm just saying...

* Atlantic/405 to I-5 south to Oceanside (approx 75 miles)
* In Oceanside take CA 76 East (Exit 54-A)
* CA 76 East for approx 18 miles to I-15. This is also known as the San Luis Rey Expressway. Traffic signals on first half of this CA 76 route.
* As you approach I-15 there is a Mobil station on the left. Rendezvous in the Park & Ride lot next to Mobil (intersection is traffic signal for Old Hwy 395).
* Drive from Atlantic/405 to Palomar rendezvous, approx 93 miles just under 2 hrs (1hr 50 min).

OK, based on Jimbo's comments, lets do the original plan of the 405/5/76....Blake/Jen see you at the Atlantic exit of the 405...
