SoCal Paramount Ranch Cruise

Rusty - didn't your dad race there in the '50s? Count me in! Most any of those dates are fine by me! 

Well Jim since you brought that up... <insert cheesy grin>

 

Yes! My dad raced the first running there in May of 1956. He raced a very rare little sports car - a Moretti Berlinetta Coupe also known as a Baby Ferrari. You can see his car in the video footage shot by John McClure. His car is #333 - White with red top and hood.

So as you may have guessed I have a rather personal interest in going to this place with as many of you as possible!

Bruce - this shouldn't be too far from you. We will probably meet at our usual Malibu spot, Topanga Ranch Inn at intersection of Topanga Cyn & Pacific Coast Hwy in Malibu. Will keep everyone posted on dates when Rusty gets some feedback from the Park Rangers. Should be a lot of fun! 

I'm very interested. Any date works for  me. Just not sure what is a safe route from Ornage: looking at the Google map for possibilities. Perhaps I can catch up with Jim somewhere??

I'm just throwing this out there but I'm thinking we could meet at the Topanga Ranch Motel then head up Topanga Canyon to the Inn Of The Seventh Ray on Old Topanga Canyon Rd for lunch then head over and do the Tuna Canyon run. Once back out on PCH head to Malibu Canyon and on up to Mulholland Hwy to Paramount Ranch for some photos, tour, and an ice cold beer or two on the down low of course?!

 

 

Hi Rusty,

Provided we meet at the Topangga Motel at 10 and leave there at 10:30. We will be at the Seventh Ray around 11:00, it will then be a brunch instead of a lunch. I am not sure if the group wants to eat that early. Is there a nice place for lunch close to the Paramount Ranch?. I am game with either one

MusbJim- thank you, I'll watch the postings. By the way, this will be my first long trip (beyond 30 mi @ one time) how do you guys do the gas stops with the VS cars having a 8 gal tank. I get about 100 to 110 miles, but thats with the old jet set in my carbs.

Most of us who do the really long trips (Over 30 miles) strap a couple of 5 gallon gas cans to the luggage rack - if you have one. Some of us bolt on the 5 gallon gas can rack on each of the rear fenders. It kind of gives your 356 that "Equipped" look with subtle off-road appeal.

Rusty- sounds like a gas bomb on wheels. Or, a survival trip across the western frontier if one makes it past the obsticles

Well we don't have a date set yet. I think the later in September the better as I'm hoping it will cool off a little.

+1 for 27th.  Doubt it will have cooled off much, but we can hope. 

27th will be good for me. Not on the 20th as that is my wife's birthday weekend, a no no

20th is my 16th wedding anniversary so also a no no for me.

Come-on Eddy.. if you go on the 20th, then EVERY weekend after that will  be open for you... LOL... Jimbo please keep me posted too... College Football is starting this weekend and I'll need to get this in my schedule ASAP... Thanks my Brutha...

Update!!!

 

So I am thinking that I jumped the gun with Jim getting his new car and all. September in the valley where Paramount Ranch is located has high summer temps. You don't hear anyone complain there because they all have air conditioning and the department of water and power reliable - not to mention Kim Kardashian out and about.

 

With that said may I suggest that we postpone this to October? This may well be a better option, not withstanding a little El Nino bad luck, and will be more Air Cooled friendly!!

Rusty, I live 5 minutes from the Paramount Ranch and it doesn't really cool off until late November.  Its not that bad right now and if we are moving between the canyons and the coast it will be cooler.  FYI, no AC in my Speedster (only time I've ever wanted it was stuck on the 101 in traffic mid-afternoon in August).

 

I vote for keeping it the current planned weekend.

I guess we can see what dates the park service will give us for access to the Ranch then survey who can make it! I'm up for whenever we can get or group on the track grounds. 

So, we still on for the 20th?  Have to lock in the plans before my wife does that for me.

This is still on. Was just waiting for a change in temperature.

 

I also contacted the Ranch. For us to drive onto the remainder of the track for photographs I would need to get a permit. I think a weekend this month (October) would be good.
