Jim/Dusty,
I have another committment that weekend, this year. We also have to be in LA the next weekend for a family thing. So, it looks like next year. Do you guys have experience hauling a car on trailer? We have a class C motorhome now, I'm pretty sure that the hitch is rated to tow a car. I guess I should try U-Haul for a car hauler, with the Speedy it should be like hauling an empty trailer.
I'm putting next year on the calender right now. Have a great event and above all be safe...
Curt and Jo Ann
Curt - trailered our Speedy 2,500 miles round-trip to Dusty's place in Colorado last year. Should be easy-peasy with your RV.

Every time I get a chance. It is impossible to capture the feel and majesty of this Hwy on film. There are so many different moods to this road. It is THE "356 HWY" IMHO! The group will be traveling a portion of it during this Morro Bay gathering, let by MUSBJIM himself!

Marty, actually that IS the route Bay Area spyders Rick and myself (plus whoever joins us) take. After leaving San Jose we bolt over to Monterey and then south on Hwy 1 to Morro. It IS famously spectacular!
Last year Rick and I did it both going south and north. We did the 122 mile southbound sprint from Montery to Morro in just a tick over 77 minutes. We kept it tame for Mary and Ann in the right-hand (cliff edge side) seats. I don't know why the speedsters won't drive with us.

I like to drive with you guys, but the pace is too slow!

where do we pick up john leader?
I'm not going to be able to clear town in time to connect with the caravan, GERD.
I'll be thundering up the 101 behind you (by a couple of hours) and see you all in Morro Bay.
I'll be traveling with Brook Walton and Oz Abregov - at least that's the plan.

OK
Marty,
I am proud to say I have driven all of those roads except the one in Hawaii. I believe I could name a few more to add to the list. Sharon and I seem to search out exciting roads on motorcycles and sports cars. (Keeps her young !!)
Happy Trails,
Dusty and LMS

I have only driven the first 2. Saddle road is no big deal except for the fog. I think the Hana Hwy is more scary.
I did the Hanna hiway on a Harley...very cool...
I did it on the roof of a 65 Nomad wagon
I did the HWY 1 drive, with the Bixby bridge, twice last year. The bridge is really something in photos, but when you are driving over it you can't really get the full impact of just how spectacular it really is.

Highway 154 is full of construction, one lanes, lots of stops. I would suggest staying on the 101 and enjoy the ocean. It's a little further that way, but the stops might be a pain in the arse and a waste of valuble time. See you Friday afternoon.

Thanks for the 'heads up,' Warren.
I love 154 but I think I'll skip it on Friday.
Maybe try it on the way South on Sunday (no construction on Sunday, right?).

Warren - THANKS for the heads-up on 154. Along with the usual weekend traffic on that route, that would have been a major bummer.
JJ- DUDE you sold your car one week TOO SOON!! Stay in touch!
John L. - see ya in Morro Bay!

JJ,
Sorry you can't come to Morro. You pleaded with me to get one more ticket on the banquet list and I did that for you when you promised to immediately mail me a check. I already paid for your ticket so you still owe me for it. Don't stiff me now, that's not cool!

It looks like we'll probably have about 15 cars in this caravan. The parking lot across the street at McDonald's is bigger, plus the available restrooms for those who need to pit stop. Those needing to top off fuel can still do so at the Mobil station.
From there we will drive a short distance to Carpenteria for a quick lunch stop before hitting the road to Morro Bay!

Gerd - In light of the fact that you now seem to be hard on Speedy's, I think use of the term ROLL should be reconsidered. Drive carefully everyone. See you tomorrow.
