Any SoCal SOCers interested in cruising up the mountain roads to the Palomar Observatory (North San Diego County) sometime this month, November?

Chime in with dates that would work for you and we'll sort it all out. Any possibility of anyone able to do this on a week day (less traffic on the mountain)?

Based on dates noted and your right-seaters, it seems that (as of this writing) the most probable cruise date could be Saturday Nov. 24th (weekend after Thanksgiving). Possible cruise attendees on that date:

Brian (RacerX) & right-seater

Scott (OCC) & right-seater

Roy McIntyre

Eddie Karyadi

Rusty Smith

Larry (GOOFER) Bull

Tom Murtaugh

Musbjim

Dan Stewart & right-seater

I will wait for group comment before locking in that date.

We will relocate our previous rendezvous location to one with easier in-out accessibility. For this cruise we will meet 10:00AM at the gas station at the Pala Casino on Hwy 76 (11154 CA-76, Pala, CA 92059). This is about 4 miles East of 15 Fwy (just south of Temecula).

10:30 - Depart Pala Casino, cruise up Palomar Mountain Road...Palomar Mountain front...pit stop & refreshments at Palomar Mountain General Store...DSCN1175...continue to mountain summit and Palomar Observatory...DSCN1181...head down backside of Palomar Mountain & stop at Raptor View Point overlooking Henshaw Lake...20160730_141529_HDR_resized

...then homeward bound.

Cruise time approximately 3 hrs, distance covered,  about 75 miles.

Keep an eye on this thread.

PEOPLE OF EARTH!!!

@Karyadi @Rusty S @Dan Stewart @goofer @Roy @OCC @Tom Murtaugh @Dutch @*LongFella

ABORT, ABORT cruise on Sat November 24th - Just came to my senses and realized on that long Holiday weekend, the roads will be packed. There would be too much traffic to deal with on the highways (I-5 & I-15) and especially on that mountain road (tourists, other car clubs, motorcycles & cyclists).

PLAN 'B' (AKA; Plan 9 From Outer Space)

Move Palomar cruise to Tues. Nov 20th. Based on same availability criteria, those who can cruise on this day are; OCC, RacerX, Eddie K, Musbjim & Roy.  We can do a another cruise in December (TBA) for those unable to make it on Tues Nov 20th.

Comments?

CRUISE ALERT!!

@RacerX @OCC @Roy @Tom Murtaugh @Karyadi

Sorry to report that I will have to bow out on this cruise. Recently started having problem with debris in my car's fuel system. Long story short; I need to remove and clean-out my gas tank, clean out both carburetors, blow out all fuel lines and replace fuel filters. Not sure if it can be back together in enough time to do a shake-down before our cruise date of Tues 20th.

If you'd like, you guys can carry on with this cruise, or, once I've got my ride operating properly (in the next week or so)  I can post another cruise for sometime in early December or January.

Sorry to throw a monkey wrench into our cruise plans!

Hey Jim,

looks like we should reschedule. 3 days of rain in the forecast starting Tuesday!

To console myself on the aborted Mt. Palomar run, I went to Angeles Crest from La Canada to Wrightwood, have lunch there and then back. It was a great Sunny day, not too cold, no snow on the ground light traffic great driving condition. The traffic to and from La Canada is another story. Typical LA traffic 2 days before Thanksgiving.  I stopped at Newcomb Ranch just to take a couple of pictures.
