I have been looking at the solid rocker shaft kits, per the recommendations here.

The Gene Berg rocker arm shaft kit looks nice. Some of the others out there mention the roller ball foot arms, while the GB site condems the roller balls.

I am also thinking about going with some 125:1 arms.

Questions:
where to get the arms (gb site does not list them) who makes good ones
do I need to change anything else (carb jetting, etc)
what about the roller feet

Thanks

Hi Paul,

I'm just wrapping up my first build and ratio rocker decisions started out as a bit of head scratcher for me as well. You need to be careful that whatever Rocker you decide to go with matches up properly with your cam.

The aircooled.net site gives some information specific rocker information to each cam.
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/VW-Camshafts-Lifters-Cam-Gears-s/101.htm

I contacted John there with my questions. I was ready to splurge on my rockers and John actually talked me into the cheapest set he had for my mild application (I think that says alot)

Good luck!
The stock cam- 250?'advertised duration, 214' @0.050", .290" lift at cam, approx .320" at valve with 1.1 rockers. It was designed to make acceptable hp, provide decent economy even when driven hard, and even completely stock cars can benefit from a little more duration and lift.

If you have a stock cam, dual carbs and a more than stock exhaust and are going to buy rockers, 1.4's will give the best bang for your buck. Lift will increase to about .400" at the valve and there will be a 10 or 12' increase in dur @ 0.050", both which will promote better cylinder filling and more power throughout the rpm range. With solid rocker shafts this is a great mod for a relatively stock motor. You will need shorter pushrods.

The 1.25's will not really do enough to be all that noticeable with a stock cam. They work really well with most aftermarket 1.1:1 cams when lift needs to be increased to make the most of ported heads.

The Berg solid shafts are a well made product (as are all of their stuff). The ball adjusters (they're from a Ford Courier) are a pain because sometimes the ball flips and isn't noticed. If looking at swivel foot adjusters stay away from the cheap ones (they wear quickly); I believe the good ones are genuine 911 pieces, hardened properly and are worth the extra money.
