Front was held in by the same screws as the full windshield. Tonneau's were only used with the driver side "racing" windscreen.
Not sure about the rear, but believe that the rear was held in by a lip on the tonneau which held it under the rear part of the aluminum upper edge on the car. Thats the part that has an upholsdered edge on our replicas.

Thanks for the information, I am going for a single screen and using the car mostly for track days so the tonneau has to stay on board.I have seen a few shots of an original ( the Blue one) that look like the lift the dot fixings for a cloth tonneau could also have been used. Any comments.

None of the factory 550's were delivered with soft covers and no snap or "tenax" fasteners were used. The spare holes from the full windshield were usally covered with a button head type bolt when not in use.
A lot of these cars were heavily modified and fixed over the years. There is a silver 550A (with the extra tubing for the frame) that is the most original 550 known to exist. It has never been modified, altered, etc. Play on the web and see if you can find it.
