Okay, I think it's time to poll the troops about making a September run to Solvang for wine, food and winding roads. Jo Ann and I are available on the 9th and 16th right now. We are planning on an overnight stay. Hope some of you Central Coasters can join up with us and/or offer some suggestions for accomodations, road and restaurants.

Let's lock in on the 16th, at least three of us will be going. Vince, what is the name of the place you stayed before? Let's let this discussion simmer for a week or so and see if there is any interest. Took a drive out to the Reagan Library today, nice trip. Came back over Las Virgenes through Malibu.
Be advised.....the weekend of the 16th is "Danish Days" weekend in Solvang, so there will be many people and activities happening....
Hotel rooms will get scarce more quickly than usual, some hotels want a two day minimum, the Royal Scandinavian has about 6 rooms still available for the night of the 16th and do not require 2 night minimum. I will have more info tonight on other hotels....
Did anyone go ahead and book? I guess an alternative would be to stay somewhere else in the area. I think we were going to hit some wineries and drive some of the roads. Personally, I don't need to do Solvang, I lived in the area for five years in the 80's. My ex lives in Solvang, another reason to avoid it. Pismo, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay are nice too. It would be nice if we could all stay at the same place. Darn Danish Days...
Here is another data point. The Holiday Inn Express in Lompoc has plenty of rooms right now. $117 for King, Non-smoking, breakfast, refridge, microwave. Three diamonds, just remodeled. Lompoc is about 20 miles from Solvang. Many new wineries along hwy 246 and Santa Rosa Road. My friend and the Holiday Inn manager both recommended staying away from Solvang that weekend. Traffic and crowds. I asked for 10 rooms, she said not problem. We all don't need to stay together, if anyone is interested in the Holiday Inn, let me know and I'll arrange for some rooms. By the way, most motel/hotel in Santa Barbara want two nights...
For what its worth - we vote for 09:00AM (or whenever) at the Hyperion Plant parking lot (just south of where the 105 Fwy ends on PCH).

Then cruise up PCH through Malibu/Ventura then 101 Fwy to Santa Barbara/Lompoc/Solvang (or whatever route the group decides on). The sooner we get to our destination, the sooner we can hit those wineries or even an evening cruise to Morro Bay or Cambria/Moonstone Bay!

Looking forward to seeing our SOC friends!

Peace - Out!

It looks like we have 4 coming from the south, Larry, Jim, Esther and Joe. Hyperion parking lot works for me, let me check it out this weekend, they have been charging to enter over the summer. We also have one towing to Buellton, one from AZ and one from the Valley. We can meet at that motel parking lot north of Malibu like last time for the Valley person. For now that's it. Let's hear from the rest of the troops.
If we meet at the Hyperion plant we will be on the coast much sooner than we want to be. It will require us to travel surface streets through Playa Del Rey, Marina Del Rey, Venice and Santa Monica, keeping any amount of cars together for that distance with all the lights will be extremely dificult.
I suggest we meet near the 405 and then proceed to the 10 west which will drop us off on the other side of the pier in Santa Monica on PCH
and then its an easy ride along the PCH......
