Wish they didn't block craigslist at work. I'm in Akron so when I get home I'll let you know. Thanks

Only two years since building and only 1,000 miles, I've decided to change my VW Type 1 stroker engine to Porsche style high flow so am selling the following parts:
- Dog house oil cooler 1971 + (new $70)
- 12V Bosch alternator w/ stand, strap and doghouse welded and balanced fan (new $425)
- Complete doghouse shroud kit (new $300)
- Weber 44 air cleaners and linkage ($100)
All came from Air-cooled.net.
Make an offer on all or each part individually
The motor does not have the seal to block excessive exhaust heat...not an issue with current parts listed though
I noticed that too.
I'd like to meet the owner. He has good taste!
It's a Beck, and the owner built it himself. Here's a link to the article. I remember it being posted here a while back.

I asked him to join us.
Nice looking car. I wonder if he's going to a Porsche style shroud in an effort to combat overheating (which sealing the rear of the engine from the exhaust/spent cooling air would do)?
Looks good! Does the engine take longer to get to operating temps now with the new shroud?
Just did first test drive last week and not sure. Working on total reset of carbs. I have been told I might have an air shortage in engine compartment and will need to create new air inlets (recommended behind license plate) but need to test/sort things out for now.
Does your car have a 6" hole in the firewall?
No.
Any insights on doing so? Bergmann is suggesting opening up the firewall and Beck has shared he has heard others have success with holes behind rear license plates.
Im open to any ideas.
Vintage Speedsters added a 6-8" hole covered in wire mesh to the firewall to help draw in air, or for hot air to escape, to help with the cooling of the engine. Intermeccanica opened a rectangular hole in the body directly behind the license plate to help draw in air, or let hot air escape:

Gets covered by the license plate pretty well:
With the 911 style shroud, the opening behind the plate would be best. The six inch firewall hole is designed more for the stock vw fan shroud.

i have a Beck with a 911 style shroud. The hole I use is behind the license plate approx 5” x 8” and it works very well. Mine has a 2.7L engine and needed the extra air intake to help cool it in the FL climate.

Several here have made simple props to lock the rear of engine lid up 3" to provide extra air on hot days or long drives. Simple and effective. Some have even made power lifts for the rear engine lid. With vent hole in firewall this would add to flow of air thru engine compartment.
I think a hole behind license plate would destroy body of car plus seems it would be in a negative pressure air flow area?
Wolfgang
thats my second air intake adaptation. I followed Alan’s setup with the switched elec. piston lifting the lid up by 3”. This only seems to be effective when car is in motion.
Good suggestion, though. I call it the “Whale Tail” on my Speedy.

Pepe...nice to hear from you again. We did Sun n fun this year and three nights in Cocoa Beach...same hotel where we met you a couple of years back. Missed the rocket launch and Cinco de Mayo but did hit the Sand Bar real hard twice. St. Aug is still nice too. Regards, Amigo and thanks again for your help last time we met.

If you can't see the hole, how does it "destroy" anything? This car (Agate Grey) has a 911 style shroud. If it works, it works. That's what Henry does on his IM6 cars. I wouldn't argue with that, the man does know what he's doing.
David,
great to hear that you and your wife still track down to FL to enjoy the Sun for a while. Please let me know next time you come down this way.
Work prevents the Carlisle trip, but thinking of trying to make Lane and his group to NC for the Dragon drive.

I didn't include a picture of the back of Bob's car because you couldn't see the hole and the point of my post was to give Agate Grey some options. In hindsight I should have included a photo because YOU CAN'T see the hole. I don't think the hole destroys anything and I don't think Henry would do anything that would negatively affect the car.
