Only two years since building and only 1,000 miles, I've decided to change my VW Type 1 stroker engine to Porsche style high flow so am selling the following parts:
- Dog house oil cooler 1971 + (new $70)
- 12V Bosch alternator w/ stand, strap and doghouse welded and balanced fan (new $425)
- Complete doghouse shroud kit (new $300)
- Weber 44 air cleaners and linkage ($100)
All came from Air-cooled.net.
Make an offer on all or each part individually

Vintage Speedsters added a 6-8" hole covered in wire mesh to the firewall to help draw in air, or for hot air to escape, to help with the cooling of the engine. Intermeccanica opened a rectangular hole in the body directly behind the license plate to help draw in air, or let hot air escape:

Gets covered by the license plate pretty well:

Several here have made simple props to lock the rear of engine lid up 3" to provide extra air on hot days or long drives.  Simple and effective.  Some have even made power lifts for the rear engine lid.  With vent hole in firewall this would add to flow of air thru engine compartment.

I think a hole behind license plate would destroy body of car plus seems it would be in a negative pressure air flow area?

i have a Beck with a 911 style shroud. The hole I use is behind the license plate approx 5” x 8” and it works very well.  Mine has a 2.7L engine and needed the extra air intake to help cool it in the FL climate.

Pepe...nice to hear from you again. We did Sun n fun this year and three nights in Cocoa Beach...same hotel where we met you a couple of years back. Missed the rocket launch and Cinco de Mayo but did hit the Sand Bar real hard twice. St. Aug is still nice too. Regards, Amigo and thanks again for your help last time we met.

If you can't see the hole, how does it "destroy" anything? This car (Agate Grey) has a 911 style shroud. If it works, it works. That's what Henry does on his IM6 cars. I wouldn't argue with that, the man does know what he's doing.

I didn't include a picture of the back of Bob's car because you couldn't see the hole and the point of my post was to give Agate Grey some options. In hindsight I should have included a photo because YOU CAN'T see the hole. I don't think the hole destroys anything and I don't think Henry would do anything that would negatively affect the car.
