For instance, the Gulf LeMans paint scheme.

I found them while looking for somewhere to buy the right colors from. I'm up to no good again. ... But doing it on my scale model is a much better idea than dorking it up on the Big Screen, right?
I found them, anyway -- albeit in the one-ounce size:

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, let's see.....

Each bottle contains one (1) fluid once and for a Hoopty you'll need, what? 2 GALLONS?? and THAT's just the "colour coat" You'll also need another gallon or two of clear coat.

Let's see, now......256 oz at $9.70 per oz = $2483 and some change, just for the paint and before the $385 shipping cost from the UK. I suppose you could save a few bucks and use good old AMERICAN clear coat at, what? $30 per gallon? Good thing clear coat is cheap......

That gets us to $2513 and you haven't found anyone to squirt it with an airbrush yet. Coverage with an airbrush (not MY choice - that's what the color coat people tell us to use) is about 1/2" wide stripes at a whack, so it'll take you about 5 DAYS to colour coat that beast with the requisite three coats (add another day per additional coats and forget rubing them out between coats).

Where's that leave us? (pass the TUMS, please) Let's see:

$2813 paint cost (incls shipping)
$3000 Labour cost
======
$5813

Gee..........

Just about what it costs for a decent paint job here in the States with Duron or Glasurit.

GO FOR IT!!!

(Maybe the stripes from using an airbrush will rub out.....)

We'll see how it goes. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I have a little Revell model of an outlaw with a roll cage to test paint schemes on, and I think I ought to give it a shot.

Step 1: Re-create all the crazy underpinnings and make a dune buggy out of a Speedster race car model.
Step 2: Hack up the body with an X-Acto instead of a recip saw.
Step 3: Do all the little tweeks I want to do to the real McCoy on the model from now on.
Step 4: Attempt to paint the model as accurately as possible with the right colors.
Step 5: Take the scale model to the paint guy and get him to see what I'm after.
Step 6: Rhino Lining for the underside of the body pieces.
Step 7: Give the key back to Teresa, so she can drive the crap out of it.
Step 7: Get myself a Guinness and drown my sorrows -- I'll have lost both of them in a cloud of tire smoke.
Step 8: ... About that coupe I've been putting off -- or maybe I'll finally call Carey for a Spyder coupe build.

It's just paint, right?
Maybe I'll be done monkeying around with this thing by the time Morgan's big enough to wheel it.
