Has anybody dynamat the entire inside of a speedster. I just picked up ~150sqf of the stuff as I am pulling in the new carpeting next weekend and wanted to give it a go to cut down on the noise.

Its really quite heavy, I put ~3sqf of the stuff on the rear hatch and just that little bit is a noticable sound and weight. I intend to coat the entire pan, both doors, firewall, under the dash, and in the motor compartment.

Its going to ad at least 75 lbs of weight to the car, not so worried about that but its the one downside that I see.

I have seen them do it on some of those restoration shows on TLC and figured while I was tearing out the carpet why not try it on the 356.

I did not use dynamat but a similiar product called RAAMmat that is the same or better then dynamat extreme in some areas.

Also does anybody know where I can get polyproplene rear transmission mounts for a 73 standard pan.

In your previous post you asked:
"does anybody know where I can get polyproplene rear transmission mounts for a 73 standard pan."

In '73, VW type 1 bugs changed to different trans mounts. I don't know of anyone making a Heavy Duty front Mount for '73 up VWs. For the rear mounts (the ones at the bell housing), if you use the trans yoke from an earlier pan, you can use the pre-73 mounts.
The best front mounting system, without going to solid mounts or straps is one like this. I have the stock front mount(hockey stick end)and this type mount set up on a 73 bug and it works well.

Hey Michael,

The sound deadening material is a great idea. Really makes the car feel espcially solid. The material I uses is almost exactly dynamat but a lot less expensive. I bought a 100 sq ft roll off ebay and have done big sections of 3 vehicles with it and still have some left.

I've got some photos of the installation of the stuff on my site. They are on page 2 of the Photos section at www.trenteubanks.com. Please excuse the crappy website.

Again, I highly reccommend it, especially in the doors. People Close the doors and they say "Man, that's solid! Are you sure it's a kit car?"

Have fun!

started today, I have already gotten about 60sqf of deading into the car, another 20 or so to go, then I am going to add another 30sqf into the engine compartment, I got a high temperature specific kit for this with a melting temp around 500f.

need to get some more jute I did not buy enough.
Car is finished and about 3/4 of the interior is back in. I made templates for the interior as mine needs to be replaced with something much shorter shag wise then whats in the car now.

If I can get a squareweave locally then I will stitch it up tommorow and install it. I want a oatmeal carpet specifically, but I would need to redo the door panel's as well which would not be that difficult but I would need to find a tan vinyl/leather for the door.

Anybody know how many yards you need for the entire car. I overbought on a few suppies lately and need to stop doing that.
