I recently saw the movie Mike made (check out the "anything goes" forum) and I heard his engine. I asked him what size engine was in "Fern" but have not heard a response. The engine sounded load on his movie. In IM's advertising it indicates that is the trade off, get the 2110cc engine and get loader but go faster. Does the 1776 cc engine have enough to get out of its own way, is it quick or is it like driving my old '63 VW

I don't know what driving your old '63 was like, but there are plenty of 1776 motors that would get out of their own way and make it on past some V8 powered cars. How the motor is built and the components that are used make all the difference in the world. An ordinary 1600cc single port is technically a 1776 by simply swapping out the pistons and jugs(with machine work of course). That is not what makes it powerful. Heads, cam, carburation, exhaust, ignition,.....etc. I am sure there are plenty of guys here that have a 1776cc motor who will agree. The 2110 has the torque with the bigger stroke that makes it a more wanted setup. Exhaust makes for loud cars as well as carbs. I have a set of 48IDAs on one of my cars and when I jump on it, those carbs are barking like an attack dog.
1600cc , Dual carbs and headers. The sound is sort of a BURP.....sound when I accelerate. The dual headers with a small common muffler make this aggressive sound. It is quieter than the original 4 in 1 header system that was on the car when I bought it. You can make ay car as quiet as you want with a muffler system. Thinking here about a dual muffler system that are readily available. But I have a Jaguar for quiet and FERN for noise.

The sound isn't that loud though. Enough to VROOM turn heads on the sidewalk, enough to keep a low conversation in the car. It is cellular telephone friendly (new term???)

**** want me to make a 30 second movie of the sound and no music so you can hear it better?
Mike, great note. Yes, I would like to hear your new movie. I have ordered a new IM but have until late Feb/04 to make all of my selections; color, motor, etc. I think I have decided on the color. The next is the motor. (either the IM 1776cc or the 2110cc)I am aware a 356 has a distinctive roar; my father had two of them when I was about 11, but unfortunately I do not remember the sound. When I saw your movie (both Bad Fern and the Moose, and the Snowgeese volume), the car sounded loud to me. That is why your suggestion of a 30 second movie would be great! The movie inside the car sounded fine. Does your car have any sound proofing? Thank you. It is an unusal thing to shop for a car, built on the other side of the continent, in a different country, without actually driving one or touching one. I will be traveling to Long Island NY (I live in NJ) in Jan/04 to check out a 2003 IM up close.
Also, how do you put these movies on the site?
