Sound System - Rear Speakers

Does anyone have a suggestion for rear speaker enclosures on a IM Speedster. A few pictures would be helpful. As amazing as it sounds, with all of the many picyures of IM's on this website, I don't recall seeing a picture of the rear speakers or speaker enclosures that IM uses in their cars. The Speedster does have a rollbar and I don't know if it would affect the use of the usual enclosures.

Anyone, please post a picture if you have one.

Someone on the Forum (tried a search but no luck) cut holes in both sides just behind the door jambs and used the polyfoam speaker pockets as a form for fiberglassing enclosures. This is dead wasted space there and the normal carpet could cover them if you didn't want them seen.

Another option is to mount Boise type speaker housings, they measure approx 3.5 x 4.5 x 6.5 " up under the 2x2 horizontal dash support...Radio Shack also carries a similar type of unit and has great sound dispite there small size.

I think I may see what the local auto stereo shop can do (if they are reasonable) and add rear speakers. They can do enclosures and add a amplifier.

If you want the flush mount .....use a plastic bowl that fits your speaker size. Use the bowl as a fiberglass mold. Cut strips of glass and apply the to the inside of the bowl. Use a brush to apply the resin. Cut an access hole for your speaker location. Then use a little body filler as an adhesive to hold you glass speaker enclosure in place. Make sure you rough up the exterior side of the enclosure with 80 grit and also placement side. Then apply strips of glass with resin.

Joe - Yes it was your car that I recalled with the flush mount speakers. Remembered the burnt bronze/orange color. If I recall you had a list of other innovative mods. I have your billet hood hinge gaskets on my "to do" list.

Just copied Joe's great idea and fitted my speakers in the rear seat area.

I used a couple of old plastic flower pots as moulds for the fibreglass!
