Hi guys

Two days ago I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a speedster. I had been collecting parts for a while and I was hoping to buy the shell last and then all of the changes, however when I got home from the UK last week, I found out that the company that makes the replicas had gone under.

I got this one for a really good price and it's pretty tatty to say the least, but at least it's a start. I've wanted one for about the last 15 years, but the prices of these cars over was way out of my reach. Then I sold my 1967 vw crew cab and finslly one was within my reach.

The car was first licenced in 1991 according to the paperwork. Mechanically it's running on a 1600cc vw beetle motor, but I have a 2.0 type 4 motor in the garage awaiting headwork and then that'll go in.

There is a LOT of work to do on this to get it where I want it. I want to close up the dash and redo the instrument layout as well as extend the dashboard covering so it resembles the proper type, a respray is also in order.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the Kind words guys. Once I get the car, one of the first things will be to get the nose down to terra firma and then take it from there. I've had beetles, busses before this, but for the last 15 years all I've ever wanted was a speedster.

This seems like a pretty cool site with tonnes of info, now I just have to find places that will ship to South Africa....bummer.

At east we have 365 days of driving weather a year.......albeit a month or so where it's mildly chilly....updates will follow.

Thanks
