Hi Tom..... Sunday is when most of the "Southern Caravan" departs Carlisle..... Is Carey delivering the car to Carlisle????
hi Leon .... Yes, Carey will be delivering the car at Carlisle. Am looking forward to seeing your new little rocket. I hope to join you all as you head South
Excellent! It'll be good to see you again, Tomm.
The Bristol stop is actually in VA, just over the VA-TN line, exit 1 off of I-81 for those coming that way. The Red Man is ready to go, save for a final detailing. I am ready also and will have to really hustle since we will just be getting back from a cruise on the 10th. Looking forward to seeing the gathering crowd of east coast knuckleheads next month.
Yup, just over a month until C-Day! I have two cars to detail as I will make my final decision on which one to drive based on weather prognostications right before I leave.
SE Group,
Bruce mentioned that I (Tom Lorenzo, Orlando; AKA Pepespeed) and Dennis Crawford (AKA Crawdad Dennis) will be coming to Carlisle from FL, but it wil be by way of Chicago. The reason is that I have to drive a truck and trailer from FL to IL; then trailer Rich Drewek's Monster to PA from IL.
We intend to leave IL Thursday morning and arrive PA on Thursday evening.
Due to work demands, Dennis and I will also be trailing the monster back to Orlando early on Sunday morning. I have various work commitments for Monday morning.
If Tom Rhan and others are traveling early Sunday back to FL (or SE area such as Lane) I look forward to be a able to Caranvan with the group.
Look forward to meeting you all in Carlisle.
Tom Lorenzo
Tom - We will be leaving on Sunday around 11-ish, but will stop for the night in Christiansburg, VA. You are welcome to ride with us but it sounds like you will need to get a much earlier start. The drive to FL in one day will be arduous.
The key here is that Tom will be trailering Tom's car, not mine. And I agree, the home bound leg to Florida will be tough. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing Tom again with his new car in Carlisle. Drive carefully, Tom!
OK, I have a simple question. First there was the SE Caravan, and now I see a MD, VA, DC adjunct to the SE caravan heading out way early and having lunch somehweres, and there has been the MD adjunct with a few folks gathering up to meet the main SE caravan for lunch near Hagerstown on Thurs, nowadays at the Cracker Barrel. Is that lunch date at the Cracker Barrel still on? And who will be heading up that way along the I 70 corridor? Should we meet up locally somewhere along I70 and head up toward Hagerstown (and I81) around 9:00 or so, as we have done? I understand that Drake is heading up on Wed, so he is out for this Thursday rendezvous. Ed?? Todd El?? What's the plan, man? And when, exactly does the SE bunch expect to get to the Cracker Barrel? Noon-ish? Will we see Dr. Clock there then?
I'm always game for making the caravan an event. Remind me where the Cracker Barrel is again, please? I'm vaguely remembering just across the border in PA.
Exit 14 rt 81. What is your eta ?
Not sure. I suppose we'll try to be on the road NLT 0830 from Christiansburg. I don't know how far that is, though. Say 1300-ish?
Google says 265 mi and four hours Christiansburg to Rt 316 and I81, exit 14, which I guess is 14 mi over the PA border from MD. So + 30 mins for potty stops, etc. 1300 hrs works. See you there. Might just be me at this point, as I have heard nary a word from any others.
"Might just be me at this point..."
Ain't that enough?
And furthermore . . .
one could go I70 to I81 and that is that, easy-peasy, OR . . .
go the back way on roads that my little car was designed to devour: take US 15 N at Frederick to 550 (N. Church St.) Sabillasville Rd. Always heading north-ish.
550 to 2nd Ave and Naylor Rd., left on to Old Sabillasville Rd
Rt at Monterey Lane,
Left on 16, Buchanan Trail
Rt on Mentzer Gap Rd
Rt on 997 Anthony Hwy
Left on Manheim
Rt on 316 Wayne Hwy to the Cracker Barrel.
That might be a hoot. Plenty of Opp'y to get lost. Anybody wanna do that?
Supposed to take about 1:45 from where I live along this route. I'll leave 2 hrs. So I will depart Clarksville, MD area NTL 10:00, heading up Rte 32 to I 70 and points west and north.
Mobile phone: three-oh-one-706- four-seven-92.
OK Lane, I'll take you up on that. There will be two cold ones tucked away in The Baron, one for thee and one for me. [Actually, there will be more than two, of course.] And you will have a door handle right??
Ooooo, thanks for reminding me! I'll go put 'em in the car right now.
I have door handles too. It's the year of the door handles. I even noticed I had a couple of handles for a BMW 2002 out in the garage.
What's a door handle? However I do have a church key or two.......
Kelly, I have to admit to a great deal of embarrassment as I am unable to find the door handles in the Fibber McGee's closet that I call a garage. I am sorry. Maybe you can get in touch with Carey to bring you one - or maybe get one from John Steele.
Lane, I am bring 2 SE door handles and to vintage VW's for Kelly's perusal.
Lane " Molly" says' if you know what a Fibber McGee's closet is, you have dated yourself ...but isn't FG & M before your time?
Just......before his time.
He was more into Miss Jean and romper Room, IIRC......

You might want to give the Brooklyn Grill a ring before next Wednesday. Their phone numbr is (276) 669-1900. We were disappointed a couple of years ago when they were unexpectedly not open. Also, you should give them a head count. Nolan and I will not be present this year.
Hoss
Captain Kangaroo, Bullwinkle, Howdy Doodie, that was my speed. Kowabunga!!!
Meanwhile, still nothing from the locals here about teaming up to get to the Cracker Barrel. I WILL be there.
And yes, I forgot: Safe travels, keep 'em between the lines. See ya Thurs. I do admire you long trippers, esp'y Ol' Iron Pants Crosby, who is getting a run for his money from the Good Canuck Dave Stroud these days.
Depending on the rules of the game, Tom Lorenzo (and his co-pilot, Dennis) is making an arduous route to attend this year. His perseverance alone should garner him some applause.
Lane Frazoo, Jack & AL We have to skip Cracker Barrel, Connie and I have an appointment near the hotel early afternoon so we'll meet up there. ~Alan
