Hey gang,

Mark your calenders and reserve the dates for the first annual fall tour of Southern Oregon. This will be on October 1 thru the 3rd. Arrive at the Riverside Inn in Grants Pass, Oregon on Friday the first and join us in the Rafters Lounge for refreshments. There is a great micro brew Pizza place a short distance away so that may make a great Friday night eatery and beer tasting spot.

On Saturday we will have a tour of the Applegate Valley in far Southern Oregon. Plan on visiting a winery or two, a covered bridge, lunch in the historic old gold mining town of Jacksonville. Lots of great eating places there plus some very nice shopping for especially your right seaters. We will wend our way back to the Riverside Inn for Dinner and great conversation. Some great Speedy roads and great scenry so bring the Kodak.

We have a block of rooms reserved in the Speedster Owners Name until Sept 1. All rooms will be on the Rouge River side and have balconies overlooking the river. There are two spas and swimming pools but don't know if the pools will still be open but bring your swim suits just in case they are. Swimming in the Rouge not advised unless you have a desire to see the Pacific in just a few hours! Rooms will be $92 for a $119 room, rooms were all refurbished last year they tell me and are very nice. We will have a car wash area set up with a hose so you can wash the car off before and after the tour. Bugs should be in short supply then.

Contact me at Bruce Williams, tutw@aol.com if you are coming and the following is the Riverside Inn's phone and contact web site. When contacting them be sure and mention Speedster Owners club to get the cheaper rate. Check in on Friday, Oct 1, departing Sunday, Oct 3 for our package. Any local people that don't want to stay at the hotel but still run the tour you are surely welcome to do that on Saturday. Let me know if that is your option.

Hope to see lots of tubs in about 6 weeks for enjoying the Southern Oregon fall color, Bruce Williams

I'll publish directions for the Inn a few weeks before the tour. Right off I-5, only 2 miles from exit 58.

Rick and Gary,

Right on Rick, you are the endurance king for sure, but others come to mind like Jim Ward. Gary, why not plan on coming up, it will be fun. I haven't heard from the rest of the NoCal crew yet, Dale, Paul, Brian, Dale, Michael, Eddie, Eddie you are really close to G.P.

Gary, if you can shake the rest of those guys loose from their lethargic ways.........!

Bruce
Rick,

Looks great, brings back good memories of the Parts Obsolete show this June. Cars L-R are Dale Bates IM, Rick Davis IM, and Bruce Williams JPS at the Krueger Vineyard near Gaston, OR.

Hope you get a few takers at Henry's BBQ for our tour. Say hi to everyone and you guys show those PCA guys at Whistler that we are drivers too. Have fun.

Bruce
Hey everyone,

Just a reminder that the special room rates for the SOT Southern Oregon tour is good only thru Sept.1st. That is only 10 days away! All the information is on the first post of this thread. If you are coming up or down to join us drop me an e mail or just give a short blurb right here. So far I've got Rick Davis, Scott Sloan and myself signed up.

Bruce, the Eagle Point guy
Looks like a lot going on around the country the next month or so. For those that want to enjoy the fall color,(hopefuly) and cooler temps, don't forget the SOT, Oct 1-3 in Grants Pass, Or. I've got the Riverside Inn in Grants Pass to give us a little break on the room rate. This, they say expires on Sept.1, so it might make sense to call them and reserve a room. If you miss the cutoff date, I'm sure they will find you rooms, hopefully with our group. The first post on this thread has all the data. If you decide to make it, give me a holler at tutw@aol.com or just leave a note on this thread.

Thanks, Bruce
Ray,

Great, when you make reservationsw be sure and mention the Speedster Owners group. They will put you with the rest of us nuts. Try and get it in before Sept 1st as the rates go up then,(they say).

Will be nice to have a Beck go on the tour with the IM's and Jps's. See if you can get a convoy of you NoCal guys coming up, that would be impressive having a bunch of you guys all rumble in together.

I am going on recon tomorrow for the tour route, checking road conditions, wineries, milage, and making a route map.

Bruce
Hey Gang!

I preran about 90% of the Southern Oregon Tour today. It is a good thing I did as I found that part of my proposed tour route was gravel and dirt. That we know is taboo for our exposed fronts. Had to laugh when I stopped at a little general store near the proposed road and asked the gal inside about its surface condition. "Oh it is OK, all the pickups use it every day!" Anyway upon further questioning it was indeed dirt and grave, whoops! Back to plan 2!

Anyway my neighbor and I found some nice speedy roads and stopped at a winery where we will be welcomed with open arms. Found a nice resturant in Jacksonvile for lunch, good parking a block away and a real nice toy shop almost next door. I had to check out the toy cars and especially the model airplanes, awesome metal kits of WW 2 planes.
That will be the guys shopping spots, the gals have many, many shoppes
in town including a shop with nothing but Xmas stuff. My wife loves that one! The route is not a butt buster for those of you that drove great distances. If some want to go up to Crater Lake and stop at the Rogue River Gorge for some neat sightseeing and then continue on to Crater Lake, that is another possibility. Taking route up to Crater Lake we can make a 100 yard detour to a creek where each year large Salmon come back to spawn. That is worth seeing for those that haven't seen that except on the National Geographic Specials.

So things are coming together for the tour. Remember tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of the cheaper rates at the Riverside Inn. All info in the first post on this thread.

Come on you NorCal guys, lets hear from you, Dale, Eddie, Gary, Brian, Dale, and anyone else from the Bay/Sacramento Area! Spyder Mike, you going to be in the Applegate that weekend?

Bruce
Bruce, I havn't forgotten your tour. This time of year is pretty busy. The daughter is back in school, so the right seater won't be able to make it. Also on the same weekend is the biggest Colt show of the year in Portland, and no I won't be driving the speedster to Portland. So I'll let you know as soon as I know for sure.

Eddie
Eddie,

I understand, if you are driving up to Portland in your Brand X, why not stop in and say howdy on Friday evening. Be good to meet you after all these years. The Riverside Inn is right off I-5 a couple of miles in Grants Pass. I think we'll do a pizza thing on Friday night at the Wild River Brewing and Pizza Company. You certainly are welcome to join us and meet all the other nuts! Keep in touch when you might be coming up this way and we'll leave the light on for you!

A reminder on the Riverside Inn, Our discount rates have expired but they also do room discounts using the AARP, AAA, corporate rates, etc, etc. You might be able to do even better on the rooms that way. I think Rick Davis did so give it a try. If you do massage them for a good rate mention you are with the Speedster Owners group so you'll be put with us in the west wing, that sounds Presidential doesn't it!

Hope to see you all up here in a month, Bruce
OK guys and gals

I reran the Southern Oregon tour before lunch with my neighbor. We stopped and had a great lunch on the open deck at the Riverside Inn. Watched the Jet Boat load a bunch of people and head down the river for a nice cruise of the Rouge. It was Idyllic, geese swimming the riffles, fishermen casting flies into the river waiting for a Steelhead or Salmon to hit. Food was great too. Left there to run the rest of the tour and the color is starting to turn a little, hopefully will be looking great by Oct 1-3.

Sure like to hear from some of you Nocal guys, Eddie, Dale F., Gary, Brian, and the rest of you. Guarenteed to be an enjoyable weekend in laid back Southern Oregon. Lets hear from you guys!

Bruce, The Eagle Point guy!
Bruce, my daughter chose, Oct 2 as a wedding day. If I can get uncle Luigi to cast some concrete loafers for the alleged groom, I'll be there. But I think Luigi is preparing for the elections, and has to polish his sawed off.
In any event, I may be sitting in the front row of a garden wedding making speedster sounds, shifting gears through the passes southern Orygone, while everyone is sociably chatting over the very very expensive wedding cake. What an absolute waste of money. I wonder what a pallette of twinky's costs ?

Gary "The vacaville Guy"
Ray,

Great, I think you are from around Sacramento, that is 5-6 hours to Grants Pass depending how many times you stop. Nice drive once you get North of Redding. I'll post some instructions to the hotel from off the five in a week or so. See if you can drag some other Sac/Bay area guys with you.

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the Beck.

Bruce
Ray,

forgot to mention that I'll probably be over there about 1 PM or so. I have a red JPS, hard to miss. I'll leave a note at the check in desk
as to what room I'll be in but got to believe I'll be on the deck of Rafters overlooking the Rouge River and drinking iced tea. Rafters is the resturant at the Inn. I'll probably be wearing my Replica Rendezvous T and RR hat so you can recognize me!

Have a safe trip.

Bruce
Hey Bruce,
We're gearing for arrival late afternoon Friday. Planning to meet Scott in Portland then catch up with Dave Holmwood in his IM Roadster from Victoria. They are ferrying to the Olympic Peninsula and driving down 101 to meet us on I-5 south of Portland. I'll be wanting to trade some warm Molson Canadian for cold anything when we arrive. 20 days and counting.........!
Rick
Rick, Scott and Dave

Be looking forward to seeing you guys again and doing the Speedy thing. You IM guys are real road warriors, love it! Hope my little JPS can keep up!

Don't worry, I can come up with something cool for you guys, Ice water OK? , No? OK something that comes with a screw cap, gotcha!

I'm sure we can let you guys unwind from the journey and then worry about eating. Pretty nice micro brew place close by. The Wild River pizza and brewing company. I hear the pizza ain't bad and of course the golden goodness makes the pizza slide down better. They also have all kinds of sandwiches and such. The Steelhead and the fall run of Salmon should be on then so bring your fishing rod and maybe they'll fry up you fresh fish for you.

Since you know the way to the hotel I'm sure you won't get lost, keep you ears open for that pssst sound!

Bruce
Hey guys and gals:

We are only 2 weeks away from our first SOT,(Southern Oregon tour, Speedster owners tour), so thought I put out a tickler. The color is starting to turn that special hue that is so photogenic. Hopefully it will really be a stunner in two weeks. Sure like to hear from some more of you. So far we have 7 signed up for the tour and sure would like to get a few more. Thoughts are that we could also do a short tour on Sunday morning, several possibilities. A tour along the Rogue river to Galice and stop for a snak, lunch. The trip to Lost Creek Lake and see some spawning Salmon and a very nice run on 2 lanes of blacktop. A run to Crater Lake, bring your snuggies because it is at 7000 ft but the color will be spectacular if the sun is out.

Location of the Riverside Inn is about 2 miles south on 99 from exit 58 on I-5. Takes you thru the old downtown area of Grants Pass which is pretty cool. You will come to the neat bridge over the Rouge River, turn at the driveway before crossing the bridge. The Riverside Inn is right there. Aptly named place!

Any questions, fire away. I scouted a beer depot yesterday Rick and got a line on some microbrew bottles. I'll have them all iced up when you guys get there.

Bruce
Bruce,
The beer selection sounds great and thanks for your scouting efforts for our tour(s)! 14 days and counting...........hey Paul and Dale B. hope to see you there!

Scott
Contact me when you get back from the Quimper Inn in Pt. Townsend (nothing like staying at a B&B owned by a Porsche buff, eh?) and we'll make plans to meet enroute to Grants Pass.

Rick
Hey Gang,

10 days and counting to the first ever Southern Oregon Fall Tour, SOT. Long range weather is looking great now and into next week so why not plan on joining a few of us for a delightful weekend with something for everyone. Great Speedy roads, winery tours, fall color,(hopefully), good friends, good food and beverages. What more could a person want?

All info in the first post on this thread. Let me know via this thread if you are planning on coming up, even for a day.
