I'll chime in on the San Juan island trip. I grew up on Orcas Island and my parents (and grandparents) still live there. The roads on Orcas are "very" fun to drive. Lopez and San Juan islands are quite flat, while Orcas is pretty hilly and has a great drive up to the top of Mt Constitution.
The ferry wait times can be sort of a pain, and they have gotten rather expensive as well too, but if you go at some "offpeak" times, it's not too bad. Jumping between islands is not that hard. The worst is getting off the islands.
I would be open to organizing some sort of run next summer.
If you really wanted to make a trip out of it, you would do the San Juans, then take the ferry over to Sidney, and drive out to Tofino.
Hi All: The good news is I made it home 150 unevetful miles from Medford to Eugene but as a few of you have ma y have observed my car had an idling problem. SO the next weekend I decided to rebuild the Dells. On a test drive in which I left off the air filters something got sucked into the a carb doing a nice job pounding #4. So the motor is out and new barrels and pistons being fitted and some head repair.
DON'T FORGET TO REPLACE THOSE AIR FILTERS.
(At this moment I am soooooo glad I no longer own a 911.)
Also, while the motor is out I thought I would replace the stock 1600 Bugpack muffler wiht someothing which provides a little more of a performance sound. ANyone have any suggestions?
Thanks and sign me up for the San Juan tour.

Hi Ralph:
I'm running the Berg 932S Extractor with a "Dual Quiet Pack" muffler set. They are not exactly quiet, as the name suggests, having a pretty bassy rumble at idle, turning into a pleasant roar at full throttle. They REALLY make the Japanese buzzy-exhaust set jealous.
They tend to drone a bit between 2K and 2,500 rpm, quieting down a lot at 3K and over, so I tend to run back roads in 3rd gear and keep the revs around 3K most of the time. At speed, they're not so loud that I can't hear the stereo, but I keep it cranked. Truth be told, I love the sound and don't have the stereo on that often.
my 2 cents....gn

YOur exhaust "sounds" great. I assume that it requires both a new header and muffler. WHat does it mean by "dual" NOt the style with exhaust tips coming out port and starboard I hope, cause I want to retain the "original" look.
ANyhow thanks for your input. I will research it on the web now that I have a starting point. ANd I am with yoiu. WHo needs a stereo when you can listen to the music of motor and wind!

Just researched Gene Berg and I have an oil filter and it says the extractor will not clear it. It might be wothwhile to see what new extractor, muffler and filter set-up costs.
www.geneberg.com so I will cal on MOnday.

Ralph:
My exhaust tips are right behind the wheels, NOT near the center of the car rear end as stock ones do. Poke around nichols1 in "Photos" as there are several shots showing the exhaust system.
I have an oil filter mounted to a bracket bolted to the left rear frame rail and run a line through the opening above the "J" pipe with no clearance problems (that's in photos, too)
