We are going to run the Southern Oregon Tour again this Fall. We ran it in 04 and everyone had a great time as the fall color is starting and traffic is low.

This Years details:

Dates will be Thursday, Sept 28, thru Sunday Oct 1. The Thursday arrivals will be looking forward to a casual touring day on Friday with a few things on the agenda, one of which Angela Lane is working on and will be a must see. Saturday will be a more miles traveled day, with much of our Southern Oregon scenry and 2 lane blacktops to be savored. Sunday looks like the Crater Lake tour, a magnificant drive even if you've seen it before.

We will be staying in downtown Medford, easy walking distance to many fine eating places and places to get rid of the trail dust. The Red Lion in Medford will be the meet HQ. It is at 200 N Riverside Medford. Phone numbers are 541 779-5811 direct or 1-800 Red Lion, toll free. Mention the Medford Red Lion if using that number. I have got a group rate for our group. $80 per night plus tax. Ask for rooms under the Speedster Club and the nights you will be staying. The Red Lion is a nice hotel, just coming off a renovation, 2 dining rooms and a lounge. Swimming pools may still be open at that time.

Angela and I will be posting more info and a firm agenda as the time draws near. I would like to hear from those that are attending so we can better serve our people. Just e mail myself or Angela with your plans, what day you are coming in, things you'd like to see or do. There are many wineries in the immediate area so that may be a plan. Angela has a place pegged for a Chocolate stop for those that don't like wine. Everyone likes Chocolate! Also the world acclaimed Rouge Valley Creamery and their blue ribbon Blue Cheese is a possibility.

Thanks for doing a repeat of what I heard was a great event in 2004. I will be coming up late Thursday or very early Friday and catch all of you on the Friday drive.

I have been looking forward to this for the past year! Any one from California that wants to drive up together, let me know. I hate to do it, but it will probably be a straight, quick (although keeping to the speedlimit ;-) )right up I-5 drive.

Looks like September is going to be a 2500 miles of tour month!

Dale -

That picture of your car on Hwy 1 is one of my personal favorites. I have it as one of my screensaver pics on my office computer.

If I ever get a black Speedy, I'd aspire to have it look as nice as yours!

If I got a red one - Jim W's is the benchmark.

It would be fun to join you guys on this trip - but I'll be heading the other direction in my Strange Rover through the deserts of Mexico to an observatory high in the mountains in Mexico. Hopefully they'll let me back across the border. Ole!

Peace - Out!
Okay - its official! We get to tour the Ariel Atom facility in Ashland, OR.

How does full open body work, two seater, STREET LEGAL, zero to sixty in UNDER 3 seconds sound? =D>

Still working out the exact time, but the tour will be on Friday September 29th during business hours.

*note, these are available turnkey or as kits*

Rich, Ray, Scott.

Come on down or up whichever applies.

Rich, You can do it, an easy drive all the way on 5. About 5 hours or so in your now broken in Beck. Ray is coming with his road ready Beck so guess I'll have to buy some Beck beer to satisfy you Beckers. Looking great so far. I can almost guarantee fine weather, if I can't, Angela can! Be good to see you again Ray!

Scott, you coming in Friday? Will you be here for the Atom factory tour? Let us know what time so maybe we can do an afternoon tour to accomodate the Friday arrivals.

Bruce
***Ariel Atom tour 2pm Friday the 29th***

This lets our spyder/speedstah bruthers/sistas drive in on Friday from the bay area, sac and portland. We'll figure out a meeting place when the time gets closer. This facility is just a couple of minutes off I-5, Ashland Exit 14. Maybe meet at a place called Omars for lunch. We'll find something suitable!

angela
I was doing some checking after lunch and determined that the Red Lion Hotel had not entered our group, Speedsters club, into their computer. They have assured me that they will correct this asap.

When calling in either direct at 541 779-5811 or 1-800 Red Lion, you will probably get central reservations. Mention the Medford, Oregon Red Lion and the group rate of $80 plus tax for the Speedster Club. Hopefully it will work now, if not give me a e mail and bitch real loud, LOL.

Looking like this will be a dynamite tour. Angela has set up a tour of the Ariel Atom factory in Ashland for 2 PM on Friday 29th. This should really get the ball rolling this year.

Bruce
Don't want to miss the 06 version of the SOT, Southern Oregon Tour do you? This is shaping up as a great chance to see some of our famous So. Oregon scenry plus get those miles in before winter arrives. Great tour to the Ariel Atpm facility in Ashland. Angela has set up a tour for us at 2 PM on Friday, Sept 29. We'll meet for lunch before going over there. Directions to follow. Wonderful 2 lane blacktops to drive on Saturday, some great stops along the way. Let us know when you'll be coming in. Hotel info above. Hope to see you here!

Just a month away and it is going to be great. It is a "travel" event for most of us but I have always found that to be part of the fun and part of the event, right Paul?

I know there are several owners in the Sacramento area and the "Greater" Bay area other than myself, Paul and Ray, any of you guys interested in making the run? Due to work commitments, I will not be heading to Medford until Friday around 2-3 pm but it is only a 4-1/2 hour drive, and I know I can do it quicker! Any of you locals wanna run?

Thanks Bruce and Angela for setting this up! I hear Clear Lake is Fing SPECTACULAR in the fall!

Red Lion in Medford has given us a discount rate for the weekend. See Bruce's notes above.

Come for the drive, stay for the tours!

Hey Dale -

I'm guessing that trip to Medford would be a 4.5 hour "fast-paced" drive, as opposed to 3 hours by Paul "Ludicrous-Speed" Harford behind the wheel of 'Butch' (sans Hula Girl).

BTW; Cool lid - did I see you in one of those mile-long lines to buy those wool caps at the 2002 Winter Olympics at SLC? We got a couple of them at Park City, just before the mad rush! What a blast!

Peace - Out!
Bought the hat from ROOTS.COM on sale after the olympics. $14. Probably the best fall winter driving hat I have.

Still room on the SOT for some of you southern guys. Great drive to shake the cob-webs out of the car. NO TRAFFIC JAMS, except for driving thru Redding where we slow to 65.

Sacramento guys? Elk Grove guys (See ya there Ray) Davis guy (Michael?)

This is going to be fun, come on. Drive a little, see a lot!!

I made my Motel room reservations at the Red Lion and found out the sweetheart who was setting us up with a group rate, neglected to. This after two phone calls to her requesting she do that. Anyway, no harm done as I easily got a room and I requested the $80 plus tax rate the bimbo had quoted. The reservations gal said she is making a note on the computer about the "Speedster Club" so you probably can even get a cheaper rate on your own. Plenty of rooms available so no problems there. If you have any trouble at all, just E Mail me at tutw@aol.com Hope to hear from more attendees or those needing questions answered. This will be a blast with scenic miles and scenic cars traveling the less traveled 2 lanes.

Don't forget the tour of the Areil Atom facility in Ashland at 2 PM on Friday, Sept 29. Be there!

Rich,

Thanks for the input. We'll see this baby on Friday afternoon at the assembly facility. I understand they are using the ecotech blower version now! Guess we won't offer to do a pink slip trial with those guys, unless you have Butch along of course.

The Dead Indian Road he speaks of is on our candidate list for a Saturday tour. Although somewhat politically incorrectly named, this is a dynamite road to travel with twisties, ups and downs and great vista's. Maybe lunch at the Lodge at Lake of the Woods if it is still open.

Thanks, Bruce
A little update guys n gals... Today I was driving one of the routes we will likely take during the SOT. The wine grapes are visible from the road, some of the leaves are starting to turn color and all of this will get nothing but better between now and the end of the month.

Looking forward to seeing all-you-all!

angela and Steve (the long suffering steve...)
Rich, if the plans are to drive to Crater Lake Sunday morning and everyone go their separate ways from there, we can continue on towards Roseburg and on up I-5 home. That was the routine two years and we got home mid-afternoon. I'd be more than happy to make the trip with you.

I haven't made reservations yet either, but should early next week. By the way, we're on our own. No one from further up north will be heading down.
