I found one on ebay. I threw away the space saver rim and mounted the tire on a stock 4" vw rim. It fits in the stock VS trunk with no problem. I made a cover for it and use the depth of the wheel to store a few tools, jack & spares.
You should be able to find one at your local junk yard.

Gary,

Take a peak at the "Knowledge", "Johnny 2 Bolts" lists information regarding Speedster Spare Tires.

I followed his suggestion/information and I now travel with a Spare.

The information listed utilizes a Standard VW Wheel, 4.5" X 15" and has a 135 R 15 mounted.

I can close the front Bonnett without any "Deforming of the Front Bonnett".

Another consideration, was a "Space Saver Tire" from a Dodge; discard the Dodge wheel and mount the Space Saver Tire on a 4.5" X 15" VW Wheel.

I attempted to locate the Dodge Space Saver Tire/Wheel at Salvage Yards and had no luck. I Attempted to purchase the Space Saver Tire only and found that they only offered it complete mounted on a Dodge Wheel.

It was more cost effective to go with the VW Steel Wheel and 135 R 15 Tire.

I picked up the Steel Wheel for practically nothing from a VW Repair Shop and there are quite a few listings in HOT VW Magazine for 135 R 15 Tires.

Good Luck,

Jack Blake
Never passing up an invitation to type, especially from Molson country!

Yes, indeed, I am using a full-size, rear wheel drive Cadillac (Sedan-de Ville, in fact) "Space Saver Spare" in my CMC. I've written about it on here before, so you can do a search and see what size it is (I'm not near it as I write this) but, interestingly enough, the full-size, rear wheel drive Cadillac 16" bolt pattern is identical to a Porsche Fuchs bolt pattern. Moreover, the outside diameter of the tire is about the same as the 205/225 X 16 tires on my CMC.

I also got all of the hold/down hardware from the Cadillac and mounted the hold-down peg in the middle of the space between the battery and the gas tank, then glued a short 2 X 4 across that space just above the battery box, with a lip on it to catch the inside of the metal wheel rim to keep it from sliding around. Finally, I put a mat of foam rubber (Home Depot shop floor pad) onto the gas tank, as well as on the aforementioned 2 X 4 for padding, and mounted the spare with the deep well UP (same as Cadillac) and got (at Wal-Mart) a Rubbermaid "Take-Along" picnic condiment carrier, which just happens to fit PERFECTLY into the well of the overturned wheel AND can be secured down by the upper, spare wheel cover fastening nut.

If you're using Fuchs rims with alloy (covered) nuts, you'll also have to get a set of five regular, 14MM lug nuts without covers, since the wheel stud length needed for the space saver wheel (which is much thinner) is much shorter than the Fuchs. When mounting the spare, use the uncovered lug nuts and a deeper socket (I bring along a deep 19mm socket in my spares kit) - it all works like a charm.
