Aloha:

Does anyone have suggestions for a spare tire for a Thunderranch Speedster? There is room for some something 18" in diameter and about 4" thick/deep/wide. I currently carry around a can of that fix flat spray stuff. In Hawaii, many of the tire repair places will not repair a tire is treated with the fix flat spray stuff. I am pretty sure one of you out there knows what rim and tire setup will work.

If I use your idea, you will get a box of Chocolate covered macadamia nut candies and Kona coffee as a small reward. As you can see, I am not above bribery.

Thanks in advance.

Use the Search function here under "Spare Tire"; you'll find a lot of info. If I recall correctly on CMCs, old Intermecs, VS's and most pan based cars a T 125-70D15 is the recommended one. It's a temporary tire; you can get them at any junkyard; change it over to 4-1/2" wide VW rims and you're set.
If you look in the back of the original owner's manuals for the VW T1 (Beetle) on SAMBA you'll see that the std size tire from 68-71 (4 bolt) is 4Jx15. It wasn't until 72 that they switched to the 4.5Jx15. So the older rims may be better fit for the temp spare and give little more room under the hood.

Someone had also asked about alignment specs --- it is listed in those manuals too. They are in the Technical/Manuals area.
Everyone who replied thanks for your input. Unfortunately, a stock 4 1/2 inch VW rim and a 125 70 15 donut will not work in a Thunderranch Speedster. The trunk lid will not close with a Mangel 4 1/2 inch by 15 inch rim with no tire. The combination of a stock VW rim and a 125 70 15 donut tire measure about 22 inches in diameter. My trunk space cannot exceed 18 inches in diameter by 4 inches wide.
