Spark Plugs !

Has anybody tried the bosch platnium do not need to gap plugs on the vw engine?????if so how did they or do they work???what item number.......for a 1915c.c.....thanks.....joe

Joe; fellow SOC member Jjr has used Bosch Platinum in his cars and they have worked fine. One of his engines is a 1776cc and the other is a 1500cc.

Thanks for responding,do you know what the spark plug part number is for the 1600 motor vintage uses..i guess I could take one out and match it up.I finally got in there and adjusted my valves,i forgot how easy it was....

In my VS the spark plugs that came with it were NGK's; I switched to Bosch because I found the car was not working properly due to a broken ceramic insulator in one of the NGK's. You should be able to look them up in the application book in your favorite auto parts store. The normal Bosch plug nos. for carburetor models as per the Bentley VW Service Manual are as follows: W 145 T1 for normal service and W 175 T1 for high speed service (whatever that means). I guess you can also cross reference these numbers to get the applicable Bosch Platinum part number.

My favorite auto parts store WALMART has a part reference book but the 1972 VW engine or 1600 has n/a for it...I went to Kragen and they have to order the NGK ......I'll just get a bosch that matches close to NGK I figure that should work!!!????.........I just wanted to make sure they were ok and not a super hot plug that would cause damage to the valves or heads........thanks

Do you have a Pep Boys, Western Auto, Advance, O'Reilly, etc. close by? You should be able to find them there. Why not go with the Bosch which is the OEM?

Non of those auto Part store here...we only have one..........is the OEM the part number of the bosch???

No Joe; OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. Reading Gene Berg's literature he recommends sticking to the factory recommendation which is the Bosch W 145 T1 (also known as W8A CK) for street engines.
