After designing, driving, and then selling two replica Speedsters over the course of six years, I was undecided on what future project I would tackle...until two weeks ago.

An acquaintance of mine and a fellow-member of the Santa Barbara PCA, who was the owner of a nicely restored '62 356-B Sunroof Coupe, told me he was "thinking of selling" it.

I knew it was in 10-point condition and asked what price he wanted. It was "below market value" (IMO) and we made the deal. After inspections, I picked up the car a week later and it's now in the garage with the 911.

It's not nearly as fast as my 2332 JPS was, but it's a whole different animal. It has a 912 Super 90 engine (95 HP), new interior, clutch, brakes (drums all around - yikes!) and it's a blast to drive.

So, real or replica...they're all great cars in their own ways. This 356 Coupe is a car I've been lusting after since my infatuation with vintage Porsches began in the '70s. I am a lucky guy...as are we all.

John,
Congratulations! You have now joined the club of serious Porsche lovers. I have a '62 T6 and love it but agree with you in saying the replica (mine's a Vintage) is faster and a bit more of a kick to drive. The T6 is a real crowd pleaser and very comfortable to drive but entirely a "different" car. Keep that garage filled with Porsche to balance out your day!

John, congrats on a great car! About the 912 Super 90 engine. Is it upgraded to 1800 cc's? Because originally the 912 was (only) 90 HP. I own a (black!) 912 myself. I also have the 95 HP but got that by replacing the cylinders for big bore Shasta's (1800 cc) at the engine rebuilt. Can you show us a picture of your engine too?
