Has anyone heard of, or had any dealings with this outfit?
am interested in their 356 coupe. I know that they are listed in the makers section above. have been trying to get a hold of them to see if anyone out here on the left coast has a coupe or speedster that I could look at.
Thanx. Bruce
Charles Gardner, owner of the "Creme Brule Coupe", is an occasional visitor to this forum. I've looked closely as his car and it is very nice. He and his wife have joined us for several outings. Hopefully he'll see this thread and comment.

The first picture is of Charles' car on the 2008 Tail of the Dragon run. The second is of four SAS cars at this year's Carlisle gathering.

Hey Bruce,

If you want coupe, you should check JPS Coupe. I have #3 and even though it was a bit rough going in the earlier months, it is now close to be sorted out. John has been very helpful getting it sorted out. You just have to be patient and talk to John what you expect. Since JPS is in North Hollywood, you can check the build every week if you decide to go with him. Good luck.

Bruce: Your inquiry into Specialty Autosports will undoubtedly result in a number of comments mostly from people who do not have a car from them. Charles Gardner is the most reliable source of information as well John Hallstrand, aka Hoss. I have a SAS Cabriolet and have met Charles on numerous occasions. His coupe is by far a better vehicle in quality, performance and mechanics than the original. I will not comment about JPS or their coupe but would refer you to Tom Dewalt's comments on his JPS coupe. SAS has it's positive aspects and it's negative ones, however, the negative ones are not about the quality of the vehicle or support by the builder. The negatives are in the time from day of contracting to the day of delivery. Oh, BTW, Paul Robbins, a California TV personality, has a SAS Speedster. A caveat from Paul's experience trying to register his car in California is that it is easier to register the car in California as a used vehicle with a Tennessee title. Also interesting is that all SAS vehicles meet Emission Control standards.

Hello Bruce. I own the first SAS car, a Cabriolet, that found its way into a customer's hands. I took delivery in June of 2004 and now have about 26K miles on it. A surprising number of miles were put on within the first year of ownership since I drove it to the Knotts gathering and to Carlisle in the Spring of 2005.

The car has "legs" and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It is cool in the summer and toasty warm and dry in the winter. It can difinitely be a year round daily driver if that is what you are looking for. The modern drivetrain does not require much tinkering; it is more like a modern car in that respect if that appeals to you.

Feel free to contact me by e-mail if you have specific questions or to obtain my phone number if you would like to have a chat at some point.

Good hunting.
Hoss

Hopefully I'm posting shots of the latest SAS car to come out of their shop.I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this internet thingy. I'm sure I broke a few tubes trying to post this. The car is complete, but still being road tested.Since I'm so far away from the shop, testing is very important. I should have in my greedy hands by mid-May.
I owe a lot of gratitude to all on the SOC site that have steered me to where I am today. If it weren't for you folks, I'd still be dreaming of a speedster like I've been doing for the last 40 years instead of waiting for delivery.
As they say here on Maui : " much mahalo ".
