Do a search here - Nolan in Sunrise FL has a gorgeous one with AT. Long build time - years.
Good looking shop as well as the finished cars..... Delivery time may be something you want to consider, but the follow up service seems to be very forth coming....
Fine product, but 2+ years wait time. It seems to be a very small, but very happy and loyal owner base.
Anybody have any recent dealings with Specialty Auto? I sent a deposit in 12/2012 and have heard next to nothing. Did some research and found a lawyer in Knoxville that has represented a number of people against Specialty Auto and its owner, Steve. The lawyer says Steve has put the company in bankruptcy several times and has had criminal prosecution issues. I hear good things about the cars but am concerned about getting scammed here.
Oh boy...
Do a search in this forum and you can read feedback. No need to rehash.
Other than the one on Ebay, does anyone know of any used Specialty Auto 356 cabriolets for sale?

Tom O,
You may have better luck trying on the SAS owners website: wwwdotsasownersdotfreeforums dotorg.

O Tom; Get your self an attorney, post haste!
I'd probably give him a call first. It's well known that the wait for one of his builds is 2-3 years. You're 16 months in...if you're weary of waiting he'll probably refund your deposit...and you'll avoid the expense of an attorney.
HEYA
CAN U SHIP ME A LOAD OF THOSE FEEL HAPPY DRUGS YOU R TAKING
REFUND THE DEPOSIT
LAUGHING MY ASS OFF AT YOUR RESPONSE
Better yet, pay me a fee to get your deposit from Steve back. Yeah, right!
Bwwwaaaahhhhaaaaaaaaa!
I just talked to Steve this afternoon . . . I have made it a point to either call him on a regular basis or check-in with him when I happen to be in the Knoxville area (which isn't as much as I'd like). I have found if you call and leave a msg, he'll get back to you within 24 hrs.
I talked to him today as my son is heading to Knoxville next week and is going to stop in and see Steve and his shop. If you have any experience with Steve, you'll quickly find out his communications skills are areas he needs to work on. I am confident my 356 lives up to the great reputation that almost all SAS owners have given it . . . once it arrives.
Thank you for your reply. I spoke with Steve today as well. He made a point of calling me and told me you two had spoken. I appreciate the effort.
I can't understand when someone is about to shell out big bucks, why....they fail to do a simple web search which reveils the difficulity ( to say the least) others have had....sorry to see the Tenn. practices still going on ...........
Tom O...12/12...that's close to a year and a half...I hope the deposit wasn't more than a couple of small bills without hearing close to nothing?

If someone wants an SAS and doesn't want to wait they should look at the car on ebay. Of course you would have to love baby blue and wind and rain in your face. You would need to be an Outlaw fan. You would have to be in a state that didn't care about bumpers or windshield wipers. But, if you could deal with all these things, $35k is a pretty good deal. Before I got my IM I priced out an SAS Outlaw speedster with 2.5 non-turbo, leather, 5-speed and wide 5's and recieved a quote of $35k from SAS. Did my research and wasn't willing to do the time. But that ebay car is a deal if baby blue is your thing.
It's green. I've driven the car and it's really nice. This is a great way to get into a SAS car quickly.
Actually, there are two on Ebay right now - a green one and a baby blue one:

Looks like the same ad, Bruce.
Bummers! Let's try it again.
Here are the item #'s: 121316680449 and 141252092162
Where is Knowville, Tenn. ?
The "baby blue" one does not look like any car built by SAS that I am aware of. To the best of my knowledge, Steve only built one car with the WRX engine, the green one that is currently for sale on ebay. There is a car in California that has a WRX STI engine, but it is a one-off also. Additionally, the VIN listed is not in the format Steve uses. This one is a mystery to me. I'll be talking with him in a few days and ask him about it.
Wow 2 SAS cars for sale at the same time. Green wide body and baby blue outlaw. Both very unique and highly personal cars. Get one now or wait years.
Either one is a LOT of car for the price. They are just beautiful. I prefer the blue over the green.
Back many years ago when I worked with DuPont Automotive finishes, green was the least popular color. If they had brown back then no doubt green would have been the second less desirable.
Same for mens suits. That hasn't ever changed.
The #1 color back then was white and today I'm pretty sure it's silver metallic. Anyone know for certain?

Chuck, the w and x are on the same side of the keyboard?
Thread drift - While I love silver and "molten metal" grey, they are probably the worse color for safety (being seen) for a small car or motorcycle. Leon's Tangerine Orange or signal yellow (even red) are probably the safest.

Isn't that what happens when the finger beside the pinkie goes up instead of down?
And Rich- Now I'm avoiding going down to the garage...
Greg, that was why I ditched silver and went white. Some lady almost pulled out in front of me yesterday as I was tooling through my town at 30mph. They simply aren't looking DOWN for something so small. Too many SUVs!
Hoss,
This is an SAS car that has been highly modified and came up for sale about 2 years ago. The original owner traded it in to a dealer in Washington State. He had stripped the car for racing by removing almost everything that made the car street legal. He had filled in the door handle depressions, filled in the rear deck lid grill, filled in the horn grills among many other alterations. The dealer called SAS about restoring the car to street condition. Apparently, Steve advised against it because of the cost. The car has appeared in various sales magazines online.

The car delivered by SAS never had a turbo WRX engine, power brakes or wide five wheels. The photos are taken in front of a business in Seattle, WA. The above Hemmings ad is dated January 2014 and shown to be in Beverly Hills, CA. The eBay ad may be a little misleading. This car was delivered by SAS in Jan 2006
I wonder what type of racing the guy didn't without a roll bar? Maybe autocross?
I was thinking the same thing, autocross and parade laps is about it. If you do a DE(driver's education) meet I think you need a rollbar.
