Anybody have any recent dealings with Specialty Auto?  I sent a deposit in 12/2012 and have heard next to nothing.  Did some research and found a lawyer in Knoxville that has represented a number of people against Specialty Auto and its owner, Steve.  The lawyer says Steve has put the company in bankruptcy several times and has had criminal prosecution issues.  I hear good things about the cars but am concerned about getting scammed here.

O Tom;  Get your self an attorney, post haste!

I just talked to Steve this afternoon . . .  I have made it a point to either call him on a regular basis or check-in with him when I happen to be in the Knoxville area (which isn't as much as I'd like).  I have found if you call and leave a msg, he'll get back to you within 24 hrs.

I talked to him today as my son is heading to Knoxville next week and is going to stop in and see Steve and his shop.  If you have any experience with Steve, you'll quickly find out his communications skills are areas he needs to work on.  I am confident my 356 lives up to the great reputation that almost all SAS owners have given it . . .  once it arrives.

If someone wants an SAS and doesn't want to wait they should look at the car on ebay.  Of course you would have to love baby blue and wind and rain in your face.  You would need to be an Outlaw fan.  You would have to be in a state that didn't care about bumpers or windshield wipers.  But, if you could deal with all these things, $35k is a pretty good deal.  Before I got my IM I priced out an SAS Outlaw speedster with 2.5 non-turbo, leather, 5-speed and wide 5's and recieved a quote of $35k from SAS.  Did my research and wasn't willing to do the time.  But that ebay car is a deal if baby blue is your thing.

The "baby blue" one does not look like any car built by SAS that I am aware of. To the best of my knowledge, Steve only built one car with the WRX engine, the green one that is currently for sale on ebay.  There is a car in California that has a WRX STI engine, but it is a one-off also.  Additionally, the VIN listed is not in the format Steve uses.  This one is a mystery to me.  I'll be talking with him in a few days and ask him about it.

Either one is a LOT of car for the price.  They are just beautiful.  I prefer the blue over the green.

Back many years ago when I worked with DuPont Automotive finishes, green was the least popular color.  If they had brown back then no doubt green would have been the second less desirable.

Same for mens suits.  That hasn't ever changed.

The #1 color back then was white and today I'm pretty sure it's silver metallic. Anyone know for certain?

Hoss,

This is an SAS car that has been highly modified and came up for sale about 2 years ago. The original owner traded it in to a dealer in Washington State. He had stripped the car for racing by removing almost everything that made the car street legal.  He had filled in the door handle depressions, filled in the rear deck lid grill, filled in the horn grills among many other alterations. The dealer called SAS about restoring the car to street condition. Apparently, Steve advised against it because of the cost.  The car has appeared in various sales magazines online.

The car delivered by SAS never had a turbo WRX engine, power brakes or wide five wheels. The photos are taken in front of a business in Seattle, WA.  The above Hemmings ad is dated January 2014 and shown to be in Beverly Hills, CA. The eBay ad may be a little misleading. This car was delivered by SAS in Jan 2006
