speedometer calabration

Iam a new ownwer of a 2000 built Vintage 356. The speedometer registers approx. 50% more milage than actualy driven. Does anyone no where I can get the speedometer calabrated in CT, R.I. or Ma. Thanks for your help Dan

take it apart and do it yourself. if it's a 356 replica VDO gague - it's pretty straight forward. if you're freaked - try a beetle speedometer first. essentially they are exactly the same guts.

First question; what size wheels and tires is the car running?

Any chance it's calibrated in kilometers? 1 kilometer = 0.62 miles, so you can pretty much add 50% (actually a little more) to MPH to get KPH.

Thanks for responding 1. To repair myself is way out of my comfort level. 2. Kelly tires 165 R/S 86S 3. I have no idea if its in kilometers. How can you tell?

does it have an accent?

It should say at the bottom of the gauge. KPH or MPH. Plus if it goes up to 180 or 200 it's probably in KPH.

Thank you Lane and Bill the speedometer reads 200 and on the bottom of the guage KPH. It just didnt occur to me. I wonder why the original owner lives in Ct. When I purchased in May the speedo read 2873 KPH built in 2000 now 5050 KPH. End of story!

Did you really think you were going 105 mph :) BTW ... if you want to have it converted to mph, there's a place in Palo Alto, CA that specializes in it. It'll run you about $200, but they pretty much rebuild and restore it.
