That seems to be where the comb. gauge and speedometer are on most pictures of real speedster dashes. There are exceptions, but they could be because the gauges were moved at some point to compensate for a replacement speedo cable that was not long enough.

If that is Lane's wheel, it's made by Mike Lempert. Mike makes wheels to order, and they are very nice.

Yup, that's one of Mike's. He's a neighbor and friend of mine who combined two of his hobbies (classic cars and woodworking) into a small business. He is an artist that does beautiful, albeit at a leisurely pace sometimes. Bob's wheel and mine are based on a Les Leston design with some of Mike's custom touches. He doesn't provide the horn button, but you can find a variety of those. His prices are surprisingly reasonable for the level of craftsmanship.

As Lane says, for what Mike does, his prices are quite reasonable. Every wheel is made special to you, and you can specify pretty near anything you want. He has a variety of rim choices and some very exotic woods.
I've had him make two wheels for me, and both have been worth it.
Lane's buddy Mike Limpert did that one..... Practically his neighbor..... Did the door top rails also....
