Speedster D Top

The top is now in the works for my D after a delay wait for my turn .

I have a question about the top just above the side windows.

Is their a support wire installed on these tops over the windows to help prevent flapping and if so where does the spring hook at the rear behind the side windows. I do have screws at the front of the top on each side and signs of previous cable installs on the old top.

We have a Vw convertable cable kit thats new and can be shortend as installed , but we can't figure out where the rear end of the cables would have been hooked

HELP!! We feel pretty sure it should be on it and the top frame is a real 59 Drauz convertable top frame.

Barry Im not sure what your asking so i will take some pictures if that will help, but i think your talking about the piece of material that goes over the mechanism of the top and is on the inside of the car. Mine has snaps to hold it in place. Let me know what to take pictures of if it will help.

IT might help to look in the area inside the top up hi,just behind the door post to see if you do have the springs.

Please note where they are hooked (for my sake)

The cables that are suppose to be in the sides of a real Roadster top over the windows help keep it taught. they run down the sides you should be able to feel them in the fabric down sides of the top

I need to figure out where the cable springs hooks at the rear behind the tops window post.

Then, I will know how long to make my cables .

Is your car a Im roadster or a real drauz?

The problem is most tops are most likely aftermartket after all these years. Or made by IM with a few changes.

And at this point, Now Im not even sure I want to install the cables. If there have been inprovements at IM.

Lucky or not? I have the real Mc Coy The top frame #775 came to me with a well worn early Drauz top still on it. with plenty of evidence to how it was installed with the exception of the cable springs.

I think its time to ask George to help me out or just call Henry at IM.
