Are "Speedster" badges appropriate for a 356A Cabriolet replica? I have seen scale model cars and photos of some 356 Cabriolets with "Speedster" logos on the front panels. I have been told, on the other hand, that this is not correct and the "Speedster" badge should be omitted or a "Carrera" badge used instead. What's the proper protocol? Or, if you want to use the "Speedster" badges should you just use the damn "Speedster" badges anyway? Opinions pleased.

I suppose there are different schools of thought. Certainly you can badge a replica anyway you wish but I would think that part of the replication process is remaining authentic either to the factory or to well known racing or modified versions. I would not call a coupe a speedster any more than I would call a cabriolet a speedster. A speedster is a speedster. IM badges its Convertible D a Roadster. I believe SAS is the only replicator that primarily focuses on the cabriolet, so the issue is not widespread. IMO, you should choose between nothing, Carrera or Continental to remain correct. OTOH, you could find a word that appeals to you and have it done up in gold script - maybe something like 'lurker' or 'chikmagnet' or 'meanmachine' or 'pureplastic' or 'whatever'.
Doug,

Badges, lots of good answers/opinions so far. Personally I like to use the makers badges if available. One of the forum members Terry Nuckels has put on VW badging which looks outstanding.
Just saw this add at CIP1

Looks like Terry's a little and would work.

Dave: Thanks for the info. My car is being built by SAS and will have a water cooled Subaru power plant. I probably will go with no badges on the front panels. I like the appearance of the "Speedster" badge but since the car is a Cabriolet it looks like it would be appropriate to have either a "Carrera" badge or no badge. Someone mentioned a "Continental" badge but I have never seen this badge in a photo. I'll do some investigation in this area and make a final decision. If "a Cabriolet is not a Speedster", is it still welcomed in the SOC group? Remember, I am a "Newbie" and need some help with some of these things. Thanks.
