I'm trying to source a replacement set of Bumper Guards for my car. The re pop's from VS etc are hellishly expensive for me.. EMPI have something in their catalogue which doesn't look too bad, obviously meant for pre 60 Beetles. Could I ask one of you who have the bumper guards on your cars, just to measure the height of them please. I believe the EMPI unit's are 260 mm's high, but I'm still trying to confirm, and compare with the VS\Sierra sets what the height is please?

IMHO you can't skimp on a part that stands out like the bumper guards. Post a pic of the EMPI's.

Alan, just check the length on the empi ones, because Kevin in CT had a set of EMPI ones from Rui on this speedy and they were the same as the early beetle ones and were more like 15cm. If the set that he's selling is the same, then they're way off.
The Empi ones appear to be chromed steel - most replica ones are cast polished aluminum. If you have the aluminum and rubber deco strip on bumper how would you create that profile in the Empi ones? $125 a pair isn't that bad considering they are highly visible.

If Tom says his are 280 measured, and the details I find online say 260mm, that's close enough for me.
No chance I'm going to spend the insane prices VS, Sierra and Klass356 are asking for this gear, it's insane. probably cost 5 dollars to make!!!
Kevin went under the name Rabid Ant on the ACVW forum. He had a really nice speedy that he was doing up. He ended up having to sell it though as family was booming. His thread is still floating around though.
260mm is damn good enough for me as well.
Wolfgang, a set of over-riders landed here would be north of $400.
Didn't realize you were on a different Continent! Rich Drewek cast his own. It took lots of grinding and polishing to get a shiny finish. If you dremel chromed steel it will mess up chrome and rust in no time. If you can find aluminum ones you'd be golden. Carve one out of wood and use that to make a mold to cast some out of aluminum (they do have a different profile left to right). Check out Rich's post on making them.
Spend $400 on a set...unless you want to spend upwards of that and three months of hard work. I had a vision for something a little different when I did mine.
