FOR SALE: I have a wide-body CMC that is very unusual. It has a 356 motor that was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago, with dual webers, Petronics electronic ignition, straight-pipe header, with a "sebring" exhaust (the Porsche Boxster exhaust was a replica of this 1950's racing exhaust). Approximately 120-130 hp. It also has original BBS racing division 3-piece mesh wheels with 285-40-15's in the rear that the body hugs very nicely. Front ghia disk brakes. It is exctremely authentic looking in terms of a vintage racing looking 356 Speedster. gelcoat was repainted about 2 years ago in gloss black. I have put a total of 22,000 miles since new and have owned it for over 15 years now. Bought from the original builder who was an electrical engineer and so the wiring harness, etc. is a work of art. Extremely reliable and fun. Imperfections: (a) one seat tear, (b) white-face gauges are slightly yellowed, (c) black carpet is lightly faded in some places, (d) one front caliper pulls and probably requires rebuild,(e) weber carbs require rebuild (gas sat too long), (f) leaks oil (typical) and (g) rear tail-lights not working (loose wire which I will fix). I am willing to rebuild carb and the caliper once someone expresses serious interest. Truly amazing car unlike any I have ever seen. Photos upon request. Thanks for your interest.

I will attempt to post photos this evening. The car is located in Naples, FL.

As to 120-130 hp from a 356 motor, race 356 motors routinely put out 160 hp (very peaky) and this motor stock was 90 hp. My motor was built by Zuffenhausen in Wash, DC. Bigger cams, bigger intake, forged pistons, slightly higher compression, headwork and custome exhaust/header. Granted, this is a "seat-of-the-pants" estimate, based both on driving the car and on knowing what's in the motor versus what 160 hp cars have. It is probably a pretty close estimate. It has a slightly rough idle but sounds like a symphony above 3500 and really comes alive over 4000.

Thanks for the interest.
Jon,
If the 356 motor is all you say it is you would probably be wise to pull it and sell it separately on the 356 owners site. If it is solid you could probably get 4-6K for it. Then pick up a used 1600 vw motor for a grand or so and sell it in the car. You might have a better chance of getting your mid-teens total that way.
