Got a dumb question. I'm not very familiar with the authentic markings and emblems on different type 356 Porsches. One in particular is the Chrome Strip that runs from the front fender to the door handle then on to the rear fender. I've seen a number of authentic (don't like to use 'real') Cabrios, Converts and other models of the 356 without the strip and same for the replicas. Also every one except for outlaws have a strip on the rocker panels.

Not a dumb question at all. The chrome strip midway up the door on the Speedster was first installed on Speedsters back in the olden days. I believe it was an option on coupes and cabs, reason you see on some and not on others. Personal choice. I believe on the Speedster GS's and GT's it was also an option so that is why you see a few Speedster replica's without the side spear. Take a look at John Leaders car, it is an authenictly trimmed GT.
Speaking of those clear anodized aluminum strips . . . which one of the "makers" has the nicest set, in your opinion?

I want to put a set of them on my coupe (they were available for all models back in '55) and kinda want to get a set that looks good and stays put.

Any help?

Thanks !

TC
TC; I think you'd be better off buying those from a Porsche parts place. I know that VS makes their set out of VW mouldings; they just cut them to length and shape them to fit the contours of the Speedster. I've noticed that the original mouldings are actually wider than what we get in our replicas. The only thing is...you'll feel the difference in your wallet but since it's a real Porsche...
TC,
I have a set of side spears along with a "1600 Super" script, brand new, still in its original packaging. Purchased from Klasse 356 (check out their website for details) and never installed on a 356 Coupe I bought and sold. I also have the set of bumpers from way back (O: (I believe you wanted them at one time but I was too lazy to pack the damn things...still am but think they look cool as garage art:o).~R
I read in a Porsche book that the reason they added the side strips to the Speedster (after a year or two) was to make it look longer and therefore more sleek. Look at some profile photos and you'll see the trim does make that difference. Still, I believe it's a matter of personal style; many of us take the trim off our "other" cars we have too.
Sorry for not being clear TC. (I was referring to the hUGe bumpers as far as the packing and would give them to you if you were local) Check the website and make me an offer I can't refuse. If you're interested in the "1600 Super" script, it's available, as they are both in the same box, untouched from Klasse 356 ready to re-ship. My Klasse 356 receipt sez: 1600 SUPER: $40.50, Belt Line Molding Set $120.00 (O:~R (precision1@sbcglobal.net)
