NOT MINE.  Can't see how a toasted CMC Speedster chassis is worth $1k but the pictures posted are worth saving for reference to see where the frame pieces are located.  Isn't steel just good for rust once it has gotten this hot in a fire? Grill still good!

hmm I fail to see any thing wrong with it other than what cmc did rong.it would be nice to have & correct the short cummings&crap they did  so it could be swaped for another crapey one, then fix that one &start a recycling chassie repare/stiffining swap out.yes it will need a god derusting&cleaning, but the heat did not hurt the steel at all, possiably a few more waves in the floor but it was cut&shortened&rewelded befor the fire.yes all gromets should be changed along with the shift bushing&joint, trailing arm bushings&stuff like that.

Thank you Wolfgang! I appreciate your input. As a newbee here I need it.

I am the fool who bid too much on this item and won. I've always wanted a Speedster (since Top Gun -sorry) and I can do the work. Problem is they're always in the warm climates and NOT in the east. I saw this figuring I'd get the roller going and wait for a body to show up. Don't need perfect.

He says he has a non-repairable title. Have to see what our puritan state of Mass does with that. God!

Thanks again. I appreciate your help.

Since I have a good number of speedster builds and restos (30) under my belt ( the finale build was in March) I'll toss in my .02. When in the moment of excitment we tend to do tings that end up being costly and labor intensive. What  might be reuseable is the shortened pan ...period. The 2x4 steel box frame comes bonded into what ever body you may come up ( CMC FF etc) with so the 2x4 frame has no use and is scrap, the gas tank will also be crap as you can get a new one for under $100 just about the cost to get the clapped out tank boiled out i.e. cleaned.

The toasted axle beam is rebuildable but....by the time you replace the components, that being the inner bearings, ball joints tie rod ends and seals you can purchase a rebuilt beam spindle to spindle for under $200. Regretfully your deal ( plus shipping) isn't a deal at all...maybe just re-neg on the payment and accept the negative feedback and chaulk it up to education.

I'll do that. Again, I appreciate all the knowledge out here. But I'm still confused (sorry) about the 2x4 frame. I keep seeing the box framing separate -that's why I went for this trying to save a step. I watched a video on Youtube where they had the shortened pan and the framing, then dropped the body in place. That's what I was hoping to do. Clean up that pan and add the components for a rolling chassis. Then wait for a rusty tubs etc. body to show up somewhere within reach. I repair racing shells so glass repair isn't an issue.

I will renegotiate the price and take my lumps but I need to understand (again, sorry for being the FNG out here) my plan of attack. We don't have a lot of these in the northeast so I'm kinda screwed unless I drop $10k+. I can weld, do all the mechanical, I just need to get a clue. I wish I could buy you all a beer.

Agree with Alan - reneg especially without a clean usable title.  The Rusty Tubs is only FG body I've seen where the under chassis is sold separate -- and they are difficult to deal with plus their body is $3995 sans needed accessories.   Fellow SOCer here in NW FL bought an IM that was under water during hurricane IVAN (?) that part of frame was nearly rusted away.  He sold the body which would have been perfect for that frame maybe 9 months ago.

Where are you in East?  Gary Brindle (No VA/Wash DC area) had his unfinished CMC for sale awhile back (Brindleg).

Jan 2012. Try again on selling my kit. Mostly complete CMC kit. Black gel coat need repainted or rubbed out. No cracks. Kit includes a 70 Shorted VW pan with title and new floors. Front converted to disk brakes. Include Windshield assembly, wiring harness, VW tranny, carpet set, vinyl trim pieces, 914 gauges and a pair of leather seats. Northern, VA

Send me an email if interested and I can send pictures. I'll sell for $5300.

Damn. I'm in Boston. I have a new F150 so I can travel some -not to Florida etc. but a bit. I'm a cheap Yankee so I'm game for anything. That's how I got in this mess.

I also remember one that showed up in Connecticut last year that I should have bought.

Will reneg the thing and take the hurt. It's one of those things where it's  just there and you want to act before someone else does without knowing. Again, thanks.

Crispy will be back on EBay soon. Seller was kind enough to let me off the hook for my foolish move.

Talked to Gary and his is gone but I already have a pan, tranny, and front end lined up for this weekend. I'll start small. If anyone sees a non-wide body...

Thanks for all the help and also for keeping $$$ in my pocket.
